MS PowerPoint graphic and text import causing SL3 to crash and complicate file save

Our office upgraded MS Office recently, including PowerPoint. I am trying to cut-and-paste text and graphics from PowerPoint to SL3. This I have been doing for year without issues. However, the recent upgrade of MS Office is causing SL3 to crash or inhibit file save operations (see attached dialog box).

Any ideas what's going on here?

I have submitted an IT ticket with my company.

I am also getting this alert when I try to save an SL3 file:
