RIck, one alternative is to build complex animations in PPT 2010 or later and export them to mp4. They can then be imported into Storyline and hotspots placed over objects to make them 'interactive' if that's what you want.
Be careful that you match the PPT slide size to that of your Storyline project, otherwise the mp4 will be glitchy and poor quality.
Can't this be done with earlier PPT versions, like 2003 ?
Hi Philip, I think Microsoft only introduced the video export function in PPT 2010 so you can build the animations in PPT prior to 2010 but there is not way to export them as a video.

You can only put one enter animation and one exit animation on an object right now.
