Multiple Attempts Not Working?

Aug 08, 2015

I recently created a game based on Who Wants To Be A Millionnaire. As with the popular TV game show, the game has some questions, three lifelines, and corresponding points based on the question. If a question was answered incorrectly, the points for the previously-answered question will be the quiz-taker's score.

The results slide for the quiz/game was also custom-built, and would only appear if the individual failed to answer the current question, or completed the game. The individuals are allowed to take the game multiple times as this is a means to review items discussed in training. So I added a trigger to reset the interaction in order for them to play the game again. The button I created to access the trigger would reset the interaction and then restart the course (in that order). However, when the participants click on it, the game indeed restarts, but they only see the questions they answered incorrectly and are not able to play the game. To further complicate things, once the game is launched, it appears completed in our LMS.

What can I do to allow multiple attempts on this game using Storyline?

Hi Jaybee,

I've seen things get a little screwy when not using the built in "retry" button on the results slide - by default it's on the main base layer, but you could choose to hide it unless it's on the failure layer as you mentioned. You may want to review the tutorial here in regards to working with the results slide.

Also, in regards to your LMS - what are you using as your tracking requirement? If your LMS is marking it as completed once they open it, you may want to look at testing it outside of your LMS in SCORM Cloud for example, as it's an industry standard for testing SCORM content.

Hi Jaybee,

Thanks for clarifying. So the score is being set by your Javascript elements - as you're only using the results slide to "score" based on the short answer quiz question which doesn't have a score. Unfortunately I'm not equipped to assist with Javascript elements - have you looked at using the standard scoring/results set up to pass completion?
