Multiple choice question disappeared

Apr 17, 2016

After changing the font size in my quiz, the MC question disappears when playing back in preview mode or browser.  What could be the problem?

Hi Ray

Are you working locally? Is your DPI setting 96 DPI? Have you tried creating a new project file and importing your current file in?

You could try going a repair of SL

Or you could upload your story file - and someone can take a look for you.

Thanks Wendy.

Yes, I'm working locally.   I don't know what my DPI is...I assume default desktop 72 DPI.  How do I find out. And why would it matter?  All I did was change the font from 9pt to 10 pt.

I did try importing the story into a new story: The text is still missing.

Strangely enough If I click on the radio button the text appears.

I haven't yet tried reinstalling Storyline 2.   The fix for erratic behavior in the link you provide seems a bit extreme but I'll try that next.

This is obviously a bug in the program.  File them with the other quirky  behaviors and hope some year they will get fixed.

Here is Articulate's recommendation

Articulate Storyline DPI Support
Articulate Storyline requires Microsoft Windows to be configured with 96 DPI (dots per inch). If Windows is using a different DPI setting, you may experience erratic behavior, such as:

Elements of the application are misplaced or distorted.
Objects are misplaced or distorted when previewed or published.
Zoomed images don't work as expected.
Font sizes are incorrect after using the translation features.

Here is how to change it

Working with any software has the opportunity for corrupt slides / files.  If I had a dollar for everytime MS Word crashes I be very wealthy...it drives me crazy - but the comment from Microsoft is 'just reinstall it - there is obviously a corruption'.  At least with Articulate they tell you the best environment / settings to use to work with their products and then offer detailed instructions on how to repair if it's not working.

People responding to your post in the forum are just trying to offer some possible things to try.

Perhaps you should log a support ticket and Articlate can check out the file for you.

All the best.

Hi Ray,

Without seeing the file I can't say for certain - but it's not something we'd expect. Wendy offered you a lot of the similar recommendations I would when we first hear about unusual or unexpected behavior and if you'd like to share the .story file here with us or as a part of a support case please send along and we'll take a look.

Thanks Ray for sharing the file. I took a look and the "normal state" of that first question doesn't have any text included in it - so that is why you're not seeing it. The "selected state" does have the text showing and hence why it appears when you click on the radio button. You'll want to make sure when editing states that you check all those components and without knowing how you were creating or editing states, perhaps the text in the normal state got deleted?
