Multiple pictures and text on a single slide (timeline)

Oct 11, 2017

Hello,

As I am new to Storyline 2 I might be missing something important but here is my question...I am developing an e-learning course with audio and my text is divided in paragraphs which I want to appear and disappear from the slide layer along with the relevant pictures while the audio plays (on one slide and in one timeline, average duration of the audio file is two minutes). Currently, the only way I can think of is by adding the pictures and the relevant text on my slide and on top of them the next picture and text etc. and organizing them on the timeline with animation so when one disappears during the narration the next one to appear. This has caused a mess on my slide as old and new pictures as well as the various paragraphs are overlapping... I believe that there must be another more 'tidy' way to achieve my goal?

Any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello Cheryl,

Thank you for the prompt reply. Would I be able to see those layers in one timeline? Currently when I preview there is a separate timeline for each layer and I wouldn't want that. I guess I am missing something basic here...

Is there a way to group a number of layers under one timeline?

Hi Manouela

No there is no way to group layers under one timeline - you can however 'pause the baselayer timeline' from a layer option if that would suit you better. Not sure I understand what you are trying to achieve.  As Cheryl said, the cleanest way is for each text/image/audio to be on a layer that can be called initially from the base layer and then from each layer to next if that would work for you or all called from base layer but you would need to use the pause base layer timeline.

Here is the tutorial on 'working with layers'.

Thank you Wendy for the reply and Cheryl thank you also for the demos.

My problem is with the seekbar (see attached). At the base layer I added the triggers for calling the various layers but when a new layer appears the seekbar is reset to the beginning. Ideally I would like it to continue for 4 to 5 layers until I change the subject.

Hello Sameer,

Thank you for taking the time to review my issue. Unfortunately in my story file if I set Allow seeking to Automatically decide at the layer properties, as it is in your example, it does not allow the user to actually scroll. The seek bar can be dragged with no effect to the outcome.

I tried setting this feature to Yes in your file but then the seek bar resets when the new layer displays...
