Multiple Quiz Course Summary Result Slide

Sep 21, 2015

Perhaps a guru/hero out there can view this course (excuse the silly Q&A) and educate me. I’ve set up other courses with multiple quizzes and a summary result slide successfully before, however those courses had other content slides. This is probably a simple fix that has eluded me for months.

The summary result slide always displays a failed attempt. Even when all 6 quizzes are passed successfully. I've read through many similar posts and have confirmed the settings on the slide, but am still hitting a wall.

Am I missing something on the summary result slide to accept the scores of each quiz? If this has something to do with variables, then that is where my issue is as I’m not very keen on variables and couldn't troubleshoot one if it were in front of me.

The attached course includes:

6 quizzes

o   Each question bank contains 5 questions

o   Quiz will randomly present 3 questions

o   Passing score is 60%

7 result slides

o   1 for each of the 6 quizzes

§  If they pass, they are redirected to the launch slide for the quiz they just completed

§  If they fail, they can only select “Retake Quiz” which brings them back to the question slides

o   1 summary result slide

§  Set to “pass each quiz”

§  Successful completion presents the “Exit Course” option

§  Failure presents a “Retake Course” option

-  Routes back to home slide

The course navigation is simple.

  • User starts on the home slide and chooses a quiz tab
  • This will then display the selected quiz layer and user chooses to:

o   Take Quiz

o   Exit for Now

o   Submit All Scores

  • Each layer will change state after it has been selected. (It would be nice to have the layer state reset if the user fails the test, but that’s another discussion.)

Hi Christina,

Thanks for sharing that overview and the slide here. I am taking a look at your file, and was curious if you could answer the following additional pieces of info for me. How are you publishing and where are you hosting the course? When you've published are you testing this in the intended environment to see the odd behavior or testing locally? You'll want to ensure you're testing in the published output environment as detailed here.

Also, are you using the latest update of Storyline 1, Update 10?

Hi Ashley;

I did publish it for the web and put it in the server file and produced the same result. Our LMS preview of the uploaded zip file didn't work either. Both displayed the "You did not pass" summary result slide.

As for using the most updated version... I confess I don't have Update 10 installed. My IT department will be completing this in the morning and I can post an update about behaviors after this is done.

Thanks,
Chris Ogata

Hi Chris,

I saw the same thing while testing your file in the latest update last night and am taking a further look at it. While I do I did just want to let you know that replying via email your signature is included in the forum thread, so you're welcome to edit the post to remove that if you would like but it doesn't look to contain any confidential information.

Hi Chris,

I had to get another pair of eyes on this but you had an additional trigger on slide 1.14's success layer to reset the quiz when the user clicked the button to go back to the home page, so they were never "passing all the quizzes". Take a look at the attached updated copy as it works as expected now.
