Multiple Response Question and Multiple Rationales

Nov 10, 2015

Novice Storyline user-using Multiple Response Question (not free form) template-putting question marks at the end of each answer for learner to click on to reveal answer rationales, trigger shows rationale layer when user clicks on question mark.   There are 5 answer rationales which reset to the current one, what could I be doing wrong?

Hi, Enrica -- If I am understanding your question correctly, by looking at your file itself, it appears on Slide 1.5 that you need to have one trigger set up per question (as it seems you only have 1 trigger set up to show layer 3 on question mark 3 currently). Please let me know if that is what you had in mind or if you need further assistance!

Hi Enrica!

If you utilize the Multiple Response option, then the user will be expected to select all 3 of the correct responses in order to get the question correct.

It sounds as if you may be searching for an option to have scoring by choice, which is only available for a few question types as you can see here. You can also choose to provide feedback by choice as well.

Hi Enrica,

Following your request, I'm not quite clear but think I understand.

First, you only had one trigger connected to the question mark button for the Lymph Node selection to show answer 3 rationale (Ans3Rationale layer). I added triggers to the other question mark buttons to show their respective layers.

As for the multiple selection question type, the Form View does not have any of the selections selected to indicate a correct/passing question. Not familiar with your content, you'll just need to choose which are correct selections and it should work fine.

However, if you're wanting some of those rationale layers to show based on selections in regard to question feedback, that would require a different approach.

Hope this helps. File attached.

This looks good-this was one part I was trying to accomplish but the question doesn't function as a question any more.  When the learner clicks on the question marks the rationales give them the answer-the question isn't functioning as a question.  Would the review answers function allow the learner to answer the question and then click on a question mark for feedback?

Hi Enrica,

What is the behavior of this question interaction to be? Meaning, is the question to be presented and the learner make a choice(s) first and then reveal important feedback based on that choice?

Or, are the rationale question mark buttons means by which the learner can review information to then make the best choice(s)?

If you wanted a rationale feedback layer to only appear when the learner clicked the submit button, then you could leverage the checkbox's selected state with a trigger: Show layer [layer name] when the user clicks the submit button, IF [checkbox name] is selected.

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for your suggestions!  No, the rationale question mark buttons should only operate after the learner has submitted their answers.

The multiple correct answers keeps tripping me up.  I've tried using States for feedback but that's only good for one correct answer.  I'm now trying Conditions and not having a lot of luck there either.  Someone has to have done this before...
