Multiple-response question, highlight only the correct responses

Hi all,

I’ve had a good look through the forums and I’m unable to find any pointers for my issue.

In a multiple-response question – after submitting the quiz (incorrectly) is there any way to highlight only the selection(s) that are correct?

For example a question has 6 options and 3 of them are correct (They are told they to select 3 correct answers to pass). The user selects 2 of the correct answers for their choice (plus an incorrect choice) and submits.

Is there any way to highlight the answer(s) that they did get correct and leave the incorrect answer(s) as is?

Thus showing the user that for their remaining attempt at this quiz, their choices will be refined.

With multiple response questions it can sometimes be difficult to identify which combination of answers are actually correct so by showing the user which ones they selected are correct would really help.

Any ideas would really be appreciated.

Cheers,

Hi Dean,

I really like this idea. Have you considered using states for the responses? You could apply a new state, "Correct" for example, to the correct responses. This state could have additional formatting or highlighting to the response. Then, add a conditional trigger to the "Submit" button that changes the state of the response if that response's state is "Selected".

Here's an example of how you could set up the triggers:

I'm attaching a very quick example, if you'd like to try this out. Obviously you can add a bit more customization, I just wanted to share the suggestion in case it's something that'll work for you.

Good luck with the project!

Hi Christine,

Thank you so much for your response. This is perfect, exactly what I’m after.

I knew states, triggers and conditions would have to be used, however I hadn’t figured out exactly how to orchestrate this. I’ve tried it and it is working well thanks.

However something further to this initiative; there’s one little detail that I can’t seem to change. I’ve created the new state – ‘Correct’, and for this state I would like the tick box/selection to remain checked/selected.

When Articulate changes the state of the response from ‘Selected’ to ‘Correct’ the tick box goes from selected to unselected. Ordinarily your responses remained checked after you submit the assessment and I would like this to continue for correct responses.

I can’t find how to keep the tick there or even insert one. Duplicating the ‘Selected’ state doesn’t work – it gives you an unchecked box as well…

Any ideas?

Regards,
Dean

Good morning Dean!

You know what? i didn't even think about that. I was thinking of the highlight as more of a "tip" that the user would need to select those answers again.

I won't joke around, I honestly didn't think I'd find a way for this to work. After a few minutes, it finally dawned on me. Shapes! It doesn't even need to be a state for the answer. I added new shapes to the slide that start off in a "Hidden" state. Once the correct answers are selected and the learner hits "Submit", that object will change to "Normal" behind the answer. It looks very similar to the original highlight, but in this case, the answer will still be selected So, the learner won't need to select the answer again, once they've gotten it right.

Keep one thing in mind, however - you will want to make sure you have the "Shuffle" option disabled for answers. This is because the answer will need to stay in the same place as the highlight object that's assigned to it.

I'm going to attach the new, modified file, if you'd like to check it out.

I hope this helps!

Christine
