My bullet points are different sizes? HELP!

Jan 22, 2013

Hello!

So I used the "work around" for putting the spaces between the bullet points and now I'm seeing a little bullet point and a big one.

How can I fix this?  I tried to click the bullet point on and off hoping it would fix itself, but nope.  I'm seeing two different sizes.  I'm sure this would be good if I were wanting a smaller one for a secondar bullet, hee hee.

Anyone encounter this and have a fix besides recreating the entire list?

Thanks!

Hi Kim!

I'm not sure if you've seen this thread already, or not, but the suggestions there might help you out. Have you tried those steps already? I've heard the additional blank line usually works the best.

Let me know how it goes!

Christine

Thank you for your response

That is actually what I did.  I started with the extra lines and that is what caused the two different sizes.  Not sure how to correct it without doing it all over again....which I don't want to do and waste valuable development time.

Cheers!

Hey Kim,

Alright, thanks And I totally understand wanting to save time. Are you able to share the project's .STORY file here? Or perhaps insert the single slide into a new project, so I can take a look? I can't promise I'll be able to save you time, but I can take a look and see if I can find a quick fix for this for you.

Thanks!

Hi Kim!

Thanks very much for the file. I played with it for a while. The best option I could find was to use a symbol. I managed to create one that's almost an exact match to the color and size of the original bullet you were using. There are some spaces after the symbol, to create that "bullet-ed" look. You should be able to just copy and paste that, if you would like to reuse it in another list. You can also easily adjust the color/size of the symbol if your other lists have other designs.

I know this isn't perfect, but hopefully it'll save you some time!

I'm attaching the modified file, so you can take a look.

Hi Guys,

my colleague has literally shown me a way to sort this bullet point issue out. Firstly, select everything within the text box then simply change the size! this will even the sizes all out.

Hi Gav,

I would love to say this is correct - however, I'm afraid it is not 100% as a solution, it may work, but not always.

We have been fighting this one for many months, and (as Christine says...) are all eager to see a stable solution developed.

Hello!

I know of this fix, however, it wasn't working with my file.  Did you try to download the file I posted?

I went ahead and re-created the bulleted list and it seems to work fine now.  Not sure why this happened.

And, so I have a workaround to share.

1. Create you text, highlight it all, make it 6 point

2. then put blank spaces in between the text lines

3. highlight each bullet line and hit the bullet icon to make it part of a list

4. Finally, highlight the text and change it to the desired font, in my case 14

The bullets will stay at 6 with the spacing at 6 in between the bullet points.

Hope this helps everyone!

Kim

HI All,

I've also been following this whole bullet point thing in various threads, and I, too, made a new "discovery" (workaround) that for me has been working pretty consistently in the last week. It doesn't involve any extra typing. And it's actually based on an old Microsoft Word bullet point tip that I thought I'd try out in SL.

So, to try to explain: in Microsoft Word (I've been a Word trainer for EVER) a similar phenomenon sometimes happens, where the bulleted text is one size but the bullet itself is a different size. Or, sometimes you want the bullet to be a different size. The secret fix to make Word behave (when it isn't) is to select JUST the paragraph mark ( )and at that point when you look at the Font size drop-down it will either be "blank" or it will have the wrong size displaying. You change it to your desired size, and...tada!

There are no paragraph marks in Storyline, but if you "make believe" and just select right after the last character, it's very similar. I just tested it with your original story, Kim, and it worked.

I removed your extra lines (I wasn't sure if that's what you wanted, but in any case you can put them back in and there's no problem; I have) first.

So, if you take a look at this screenshot: I've placed a yellow highlight at the location where I've highlighted (no highlight will appear). Note that in the drop-down the size is 12, although it's quite clear that the text is larger. I changed this to 18, and you can see the result in the next screen shot.

In this case the line with the comma was, admittedly, a little funkier to play with, but you can see I got it to work. Otherwise this has been working like a charm for me. If anyone else tries it, I'd be curious to know if it's a consistent workaround for y'all.

Hi Cammen and Kim,

Kim, thanks for taking the time to create the screencast.

Cammen, I just put together a quick screencast of my own. I've found that if you follow the steps I'd suggested in my Feburary 4th post, you don't need to retype the list. So, I've demonstrated them in my screencast - and included another tip as well. You can access it here:

Hope they work as well for you as they have been for me.

Thanks Rebecca. This works great.
