I get the splash screen with the copyright information and "Adding Views" but it just stays like that forever. I've used the product probably a few dozen times and now it won't launch. I have to go into my program list and manually shut the program down.
First, if you haven't already, please try restarting your machine.
How are you launching Storyline? Are you opening a specific file, or just opening the program?
If this happens when trying to open a file, please make sure the files you're trying to open are on your local hard drive.
Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names.
Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.
If this happens just when opening Storyline, please follow the steps in the article below to repair Storyline:
I am starting the program from the icon in my start menu. The file I was working on when it was working is located on my desktop. I don't have any special characters in the file name. I restart my machine each day. Thanks for your attention.
I have had this problem occur as well, and none of the steps in the troubleshooting guide have remedied the error (stuck on Adding Views loading screen).
I am running Storyline on a Mac, using Parallels, with Windows XP as the OS.
I have tried every step outlined in these tutorials (mulitple times), aside from removing Microsoft .NET because Windows would not allow me to uninstall it. It said that it is required by other programs and denied uninstallation.
I have been using the program for over a year, last used it on Friday, and today I came into the office and I have been unable to get past the "Adding Views" part of the loading menu.
I am attempting to open the program on its own, not a project file.
Sorry to hear about the odd behavior with your Storyline - so you've already conducted the repair with the exception of the .NET piece? It's also worth noting that there are some specific settings you'd need to enabled within Parallels.
Could anything else have changed within your computer set up over the weekend?
I'm having the same issue, this just started happening on April 10th, I've been using Storyline for over a year now. I uninstalled the program completely and re-installed it, and still have the same issue. I'm also running parallels and Windows XP. It could be a compatibility issue with XP. I installed an older version (update 4) and that one seems to be working.
Sorry to hear about the trouble - but I am happy to hear that version 4 is working properly for you.
If you'd like, we'd be happy to work with you and see if Windows is generating any specific errors that might be causing this issue.
First, if you're able to install Update 5 again, try running Storyline as an administrator. To do so, right-click on the short cut and select "Run as administrator". If the same crashing occurs on launch, we may need to take a look at your log files.
Please submit a support case. In the description, please mention my name. This will ensure the case is assigned to me. Once we have the case, we'll send you details on how to generate and share the Windows log files and look closer at what may be causing the issue.
I am having exactly this issue. Did you find a solution in the year since it happened to you? In my case the start image shows and runs through a number of steps and then hags on "Adding views". The I can't even use the task manager to get force it to quit. I have to reboot the machine. I have installed and reinstalled a number of times now and still no joy. I should say that I am using an XP machine and trying to install storyline 1.
If you're running SL on Parallels, it's usually a memory issue with it hanging up or not saving to local C: drive as Christine mentioned above.
We use CC Cleaner to clean out our Virtual Windows Temp Directory that builds up after multiple Previews. Both are SL1 and SL2 instances are running smoothly with adequate memory.
Parallels 10, Win XP and 7, Mac Book Pros 10.9.5
Keep trying these suggestions, it will be working smoothly soon. :] This community Rocks!!!
I am a Mac user normally but I have spent the day clearing everything off my XP laptop so I can install articulate. The disk is defraged and 70% free and I have also run Dsk clean. I will try CC Clearner to see if that helps.
Hi b b, thanks for your help. Were you also running Windows 8?
As far as I know, Windows 8 includes Flash as a regular update since the latest version of Internet Explorer already includes Flash Player. Storyline 1 works perfectly and I have another computer thatalso uses Windows 8 without additionnal Flash player...
Sadly no . It is windows 7. However it did ignore the fact that I already had the latest Flash installed. It flagged up stating it needed to install 10 or higher (even though it blatantly already had (has) 16 installed). So I updated it again when it sent me the link to do so. At that point it said that there was now an Update for storyline 2 (Update 4 apparently). I stuck this in and it magically worked (however it does seem to be under the impression i'm running a trial and I keep on having to put my serial in again (it remembers it however so that's not so bad).
Adobe released an update to Flash in early December that cause Storyline (1 and 2) to not be able to open. Storyline 1 Update 8 and Storyline 2 Update 4 included fixes for that issue.
If you're still having difficulty opening them after installing the update and confirming that you're Flash player was also updated on the Window system (which is different than just in a browser) I'd suggest going through the repair steps documented here and if the behavior persists (Especially having to reactivate every time you open) please reach out to our Support engineers.
Hi Ashley, thanks for your advice but I don't think Flash is involved in my issue.
I had the Flash problem a day before Articulate released the updates.
I tried to repair, uninstall, reinstall, format without success. I opened the case #00453694 . Hope the support engineers can provide me with a solution.
Having the same issue, been working on it for about 1 week now with Articulate support. Using windows 10 Pro,
Articulate Storyline 2 hangs on "Adding Views" and then crashes. I have followed every piece of advice and repair protocol recommended by Articulate (as well as everything listed in this thread and a complete OS reinstall). So far, no luck.
My only option at the moment is to just use a different computer with a free trial copy of Articulate to get my work done.
It looks like you may have had some conversations with Miker and weren't able to access the information he shared earlier? I'll let him know that you've reached out here too and perhaps we can get you both connected again.
I checked in on your case, and it looks like after reformatting your drives and then reinstalling Storyline you were able to get things back to normal. Happy to hear that!

Hi,
any news on this issue?
I have a 8.1 new computer and a fresh installation of Storyline 2 succeeded but it doesn't start, freezes on "Adding views..."
The disk is defragmented but it didn't change anything.
Thanks,
Philippe
I would suggest updating Flash. I had the same problem and installing the latest Flash fixed it.

Hi,
I wish to aknowledge you that the case is closed.
I had to reinstall Windows 8.1 but instead of using the preinstalled Windows again, I downloaded Windows from Microsoft directly.
There seemed to be an unsolvable issue with the .NET framework of the preinstalled Windows 8.1.
Many thanks for your help.
Thanks Philippe for the update and I'm glad our team was able to get you back up and running!

Hey Ashley,
I have been trading emails with Miker for about a week now. He has been great.
Still in contact with him but we have been unable to resolve the issue. Just posting here to let others know that this problem is still occuring.
-Tristan
Ah certainly understand Tristan - and I'll keep an eye on your case with Miker (# 00723112 for my reference) as well so that I can update here.
Hi Tristan,
I checked in on your case, and it looks like after reformatting your drives and then reinstalling Storyline you were able to get things back to normal. Happy to hear that!
