My Storyline is frozen at startup

Apr 05, 2013

I get the splash screen with the copyright information and "Adding Views" but it just stays like that forever.  I've used the product probably a few dozen times and now it won't launch.  I have to go into my program list and manually shut the program down.

Hi all, and thanks for this topic. Elearning Heroes to the rescue once again!  Just wanted to post my experience with this issue and solution, in case anyone else is still running into it.

I just upgraded my computer, so the first thing I wanted to do was install Storyline 2 (Win 7). I got both the Flash warning, and the crashing. I solved it by reinstalling Flash and THEN uninstalling Storyline and reinstalling it. Now I'm registered and ready to go. Hooray!

Hi Steve,

Thanks for reaching out here, it sounds like this is a recent change for you? Do you know if there were any recent Windows updates that you went through? Have you confirmed that you've installed Storyline locally and are working on local project files? If this is a recent change to the behavior I'd also advise looking at going through the repair steps detailed here.

If you're still having difficulty it may also be something easier to troubleshoot with our Support Engineers. They'll be able to work with you one on one to pull a bit more detailed information.

Hi Mathieu,

Our team has identified this as an error caused by a temporary glitch with GlobalSign security certificates that occurred on October 13, 2016 and affected many websites and software apps. The good news is we can fix it by clearing the certificate cache on your computer. Here's how:

1) Use the Task Manager to force Storyline to close if it's still frozen on your screen.

2) Then launch a command prompt window. If you're using Windows 10 or Windows 8, right-click the start button and choose Command Prompt (Admin). If you're using Windows 7 or Windows Vista, go to the Start menu, type CMD in the search field, and press Enter.

3) Type the following text in the command prompt window and press Enter: certutil -urlcache * delete

4) When the command has successfully completed, you can close the command prompt window and launch Storyline again.

Hi,

I had the same issue, found this worked for me, maybe it will for you too.

1. Open your task manager

2. Look for Storyline, and look for a drop down arrow (I'm on windows 10, if you are not, look for something similar). You'll notice a security "issue/warning".

3. Try to double click/ right click (I used right click to view the entire message), then click 'yes'.

To be honest, I have no idea what I'm clicking yes to, but after I did, the file opened up just fine. Worked the same if I clicked 'no'.

I also went to 'view certificate', installed that, and now Storyline opens fine again.

See the before and after screen grabs. The warning message is behind the task manager, sorry, only noticed after I had fixed the issue.

Hope this helps someone else (~_^)
