My Videos Just All Went Gray On A Project

Jul 21, 2014

I have had trouble with Storyline in the last couple of weeks. The first indication was when I opened a file in which I had included a Left Arrow Shape with a Text Box. The font was black when I created them, but, the next day, when I re-opened the project, the font had turned white.

I re-installed Storyline and that seemed to work.

Today I was working on a project and took a break to run CCleaner and Wise Care 365 to clean my PC. When I reopened the Storyline project, my videos all grayed out when I tried to play them. This is very frustrating and I need to know why this is happening. I have included a video I made with another screen capture program so you can see what I am talking about. Thanks.

Bob,

I think but am not 100% sure that storyline uses temp files to access videos and audio files. meaning it puts them in a cache file and refers to them as needed. by running ccleaner and prob cleaning out your temp directory to free up space you accidently broke that link. just reinsert the videos on the needed slides this should fix the problem

Thefiles are saved on a network drive and my PC cleaners do not touch it.

I’llrefrain from cleaning my PC while in the middle of future projects and let youknow what happens. I was also able to grab the Previous Version from the last time I worked on it and the videos are working so all I need to do is copy over the Shapes & Text Boxes and I'll be back in business.

Okay, I will do all work on the Hard Drive and move it to the network drive at the end of the day.

The reason we do not allow our business information to reside on the hard drive is that it is very private and needs to be housed on a network drive.

I mentioned having Black Text turn White and it just happened again.

Here's the vid.

I will Save and Close the Project now, move it to the C Drive and work on it from there.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the video - this issue with the text could also be associated with working off a network drive instead of a local drive, because working on a network drive or an external (USB) drive can cause erratic behavior, such as file corruption, an inability to save changes, and loss of resources.. Was this video created for a .story file that was created and worked on from your local drive? You may want to try importing it into a new project to resolve any lingering odd behavior, and if you're able to recreate the behavior on a brand new file that you start from your local drive, please let us know.
