Navigation details of the articulate player to learners

Mar 17, 2014

Hi People,

Ok, I don't know how to explain this but I'll try my best.

I want to add the navigation details like displaying the arrows directing the menu tab, notes tab or resources tab etc of the Articulate Player syncing with my audio as soon as the learner hits the play button for starting the course. But I do not want to add another slide with video showing it.

What I am trying to say is when creating a new slide I cannot have the player screen, so I am not able to display arrow shapes directing towards the different tabs of the player. The player screen only appears when I preview my slide. So, I don't know how to add my navigation details into the slide for the player.

Also,  when the Narration about the navigation details of the player finishes, learner can click on the next button in the same slide and carry on with his/her course.

I hope I am able to explain what my issue is. I don't know if it is a lame question, any suggestions or ideas would be of great help.

Thanks

Hi Nimisha,

I'm not sure I'm understanding your question, but I thought I'd give it a try.

Are you saying that you're unable to record the Storyline Screen? Because, what you can do is run a second instance of Storyline, and use this second instance to record what's happening in the other instance.

Apologies if that's not what you meant.

Thank you Rebecca for your response. Please don't apologize, its me, actually I am sorry for being so lame and not able to explain it properly.

I wanted to show the learners how to navigate through the Articulate player like where to click and when. I already tried to do that by making a video using another instance of Storyline. But when I preview my project, it looks weird like articulate player video inside the Articulate player.

I have attached the screenshot for better understanding of my issue.

I have added objects such as arrow shapes syncing with my narration audio to explain where is Menu tab, Resources tab, Notes Tab etc. on the Introduction slide itself. It does comes out what I almost wanted but not exactly what I required to obtain. I wanted to put the objects(arrows) for pointing out various tabs and buttons on player itself but I don't know if it is possible or not.

Hope I am a bit close to explain about my issue.

Hi Nimisha,

You can't use those arrows on the player itself - and I understand that it's difficult to see where to place them on the slide itself based on not being able to view the player unless your previewing so it takes a bit of trial and error to set it up on the slide and then use the Preview button (and select for just that slide or a set of slides) to see how it would behave and then move the elements accordingly.

Also, in regards to your screen capture, you could change the size of the recording window prior to starting to record and then not include the player in the recording - although I'm not entirely clear on what this would achieve as you'd still need to set up the arrows originally on the slides. Unless - you recorded just the "slide" section with your mouse pointing to where those areas would be - sitting just outside the recording window. Then it would be like a quick video about how it would behave?

Hi Ashley,

Yes, I figured its not going to be like what I wanted. Although I did add my objects syncing with my narration audio, and yes it did took quite a few trails as I have to see in the preview window where to put them each time.

Well, I tried my best with what I can do, and guess this is it.

Thank you so much for the suggestions.
