navigation from player menu not working

Sep 30, 2014

I created my menu from all my slides but then deleted the submenu items and left only the scene item.  Each scene includes two or more individual slides.  When users click on the menu items they don't navigate anywhere.  The menu is set to free since the users can view the slides in any order.  I don't have any other option selected under the menu settings.  Is there some other setting for the menu navigation?

thanks

Hello Michele,

When you delete all of the sub menu items in the menu, you will not be able to navigate by using the menu. Users can still skip ahead and back using the Prev and Next buttons, if you keep it set to Free.

you will have to leave at least one sub menu to get this feature to work.

You could set the menu items to be collapsed in the Menu. This will leave the items collapsed, until the user is in the scene, then the sub menus will show up, but you can also have them set to Auto Collapse as user progresses.

I would really like to see a future feature that allows this. It looks rather stupid to have a menu with many items like "Click OK", etc. (Yes, I know you can change the text).

I would like to be able to set up a screen demo where one can navigate in the menu from one "Main Chapter/Slide" title to another:

1. Overview
2. User Interface
3. Setup Screen

Instead of:

1. Overview
  1.1 Overview
2. User Interface
  2.1 User Interface
3. Setup Screen
  3.1 Setup Screen

Also what really irritates me is the lack of "trigger logic" in the software when adding Scenes. Why do I have to manually add triggers? Isn't it logical that when I add Scene 3 it should follow Scene 2?

Ashley,
Has there been any progress on this in the last 5 years? I'm running into this exact problem today. I think Gary makes a really good point. In many cases it doesn't make any sense to restrict the menu item by requiring sub items for each label on the menu. Especially if you only want your users to navigate from scene to scene in the case of a software simulation with lots of click actions.

Hi Andrea,

Thanks for reaching out to follow up on this conversation.

The explanation from Emily above is the default behavior. Did you delete all of the slides/submenu items like the original author of this forum thread described?

I'm not able to locate any feature requests from the customers above, but I do see where you are a Storyline 360 user and we are tracking a similar issue as a potential bug.

I wanted to share some information on how we define bugs and how we tackle them when they occur. I've added this conversation to the report so that I can share any updates with you here.
