I am creating a software simulation. In the actual software, the user can edit the address without rewriting the entire location. For example, if the current address is listed as 345 Main St. but it's supposed to be 344 Main St., the user can put the cursor in and change the wrong numeral. However, when I try to recreate this using the input data entry field, the data entry field clears out everything I've typed in there. I want the default message to stay in there and just have them add on to it. Is this possible to do using this feature?

If you add the content (in this case, the address) to the variable's default value, it should allow the user to edit it:
