Need help with variable

Oct 20, 2014

I have made self-assessments for a number of other courses with a choice variable to add up a score. In the attached file, I would like the self-assessment to look similar to the other courses, as it does in this file, only in this one I want a layer to appear on the last slide only when the user has chosen the number 3 for that attribute. I did a save as from another course with a self-assessment, and I removed the choice triggers for the numbers 1 and 2, and kept them for the first 2 "3" buttons, but am not sure how to make the layer appear on the last slide based on that choice. Please help. Thanks!

Holly,

I'm having a hard time deciphering the file, but from the looks of it, you're adding 3 to the choice variable on several slides.  Are you wanting to set the variable at 3, or add 3 each time that option is clicked.  For example, if 3 is added to choice on 3 different slides, then choice would be equal to 9 and that layer wouldn't fire.

A second potential issue:  You have two triggers on your final slide to show layers.  One to show the accountability layer if Choice is = 3 and one to show the Achievement layer if Choice 2 = 3.  Problem:  What if both Choice and Choice 2 are = to 3?

Right now you have both layers set to hide other slide layers.  So only one is going to show.  If both variables are = 3, then Achievement will show since it's lower in the trigger panel and will fire 2nd.

I hope this make sense!

What I would like is for this to have the same look and feel as self-assessments I have created in other courses. These self-assessments calculate the score. This one will have the same look and feel, only on the final slide, the layers will appear only when the user chose the "3" button for any given attribute. So if the user rated themselves a "3" on accountability, the accountability layer will show on the final slide. If the user chose "3" on achievement, then the "achievement" layer will also show.

I have the triggers set how I had them set for the self-assessments that calculated the score. I am having a hard time getting my head around how to achieve what I have described above. That is what I need help with. Make sense? Thank you for your help!

Hi Holly

just wondering if it would be easier to have all the buttons on one layer and then turn their states visible if choicex=true or whatever variable you choose for each item.  I think Mike's right, your layers are conflicting with each other as they are trying to lay over each other - or you need to show other layers
