Need (preferably) San Diego-based Storyline app developer for Youth Story Project

Feb 22, 2019

Greetings!

I am putting together a grant-funded project and would like to work, ideally, with someone local.

The idea:
We learn through stories and especially from those told by our peers. This project enables at-risk youth subject matter experts (SMEs) who have learned how to succeed against the odds, to share their wisdom with those in need: homeless youth, at-risk youth and those having trouble at school, with their family and/or friends, finding a job, etc. (the latter among contributing factors leading to homelessness.)

The method:

Interactive simulations informed by game-based learning.  This project turns SME stories into sims using classic acts of drama: (set up, dilemma, chaos, resolution). The program uses pedagogical methods such as interactivity (we learn by doing; simulations allow for an average 75% retention of learning objectives by active participation) and highly-charged, engaging teaching moments.  For example, the learner interacts with the plot of the story by making selections of options presented at decision times throughout the drama.  Each choice results in positive or negative consequences.

In this way, experiencing and participating in authentic stories by SMEs, the learners will be able to make better choices in real life.  For example, when a poor choice is made, the learner experiences catastrophic consequences in the simulation.  At that prime, emotion-triggered teaching moment, a peer, historic figure, athlete, rock star, celebrity, icon, etc. shares how they handled a similar situation. This results in greater engagement and the lesson of the simulation is reinforced in an engaging way so that the learning objective sticks and the wisdom revealed at those teaching moments is resurrected in real-life situations going forward.

The stories will also include links to resources, such as homeless shelters, San Diego Youth Services and other agency programs, integrated within the simulations at teaching moments for highest impact and follow-on use of resources.

These interactive (1-3 minute) videos that allow learners to see the consequences of poor choices made in the simulation, would be available through a mobile app.
