Nested Lightboxes (Storyline 360)

Mar 30, 2020

Hi there,

I want to know how to open a lightbox from another lighbox without closing the first one..

Let's say you have a button on the main tab which opens a lightbox displaying an info tab. Then, on this info tab (lightbox), you have another button which leads to another info tab (info tab 2).

I want to be able to navigate to the info tab 2 without closing the first info tab so I can get back there.

Thank you for your help

Hi Axel,

I've found this document on how to create a custom lightbox.

I followed the steps in the video then added some layers and triggers to create what you wanted.

The idea is to create a new layer (third layer) and copy all the elements from the original lightbox. Once you have copied all the elements, insert a text box to put in the details for the second lightbox.
Make sure that you set the trigger for the x or close button to "Show Layer" so it will just return to your first lightbox and it will not close out.

Kindly refer to the attached .story file and preview the "Nested Lightbox" scene.

To navigate, click the middle mixed salad plate to see the first light box then click the noodle plate to show the nested lightbox.

Hope this helps you out!

Hi Axel,

There are two options which could work for you:

a.  Place a "Close" button (or "Info Tab 1" button) on your second info tab and set the trigger to Lightbox info tab 1. When the user clicks this button, info tab 2 will be replaced by info tab 1 and it will simply appear to the user that info tab 2 has closed and info tab 1 had always been open underneath it.

b.  Only use one info tab lightbox slide, but set up info tab 2 as a new layer on info tab 1. This will probably give you much greater control as you could, for example, still show text etc on info tab 1 whilst overlaying additional information on the info tab 2 layer if you wish to do so. Layers work exactly the same on a lightbox slide as they do on a main slide.

Hope this helps.

Hello,

thank you for your help, I get this better now.

My problem now is that I have a lot of tabs..

Imagine 3 parts, in the software. Each part is accessible independently by a main menu.
I'm in the middle of part 1, and I click to get as a lightbox informations given in part 2 (where there are many scenes and tabs).  BUT in this part 2, there are already interactive words leading to part 3 as a lightbox...

I assume your solution would be to copy all the tabs from the scene of part 3, anytime I want to access it from part 2. But this means copy a lot of tabs and coping with redirections problems. It's possible but it may be really difficult.

It would be great to create a new lightbox (like pop up windows) each time.
(This could make a good upgrade to this Storyline, I think).

Anyway, you helped me a lot, thank you.
