New in Storyline 360: Publish to video and the course completion trigger

Hello, everyone!
I’m excited to share two new features in Storyline 360 that I think you’ll love:
- Publish to video: This is a feature that a lot of folks have asked for, and we’re thrilled to announce it today! You can now publish your Storyline 360 project as a single MP4 file to use in another project or upload to a video hosting site, such as YouTube.
- Course completion trigger: Get more precise control over when your course is marked as complete. The course completion trigger sends a completion status update to your LMS when learners perform a specific action or reach a certain point on the timeline.
Check out our What’s New page for video demos of these new features, as well as a look at what’s new in Rise.

Exciting times. I showed one of my clients the Publish to video feature just the other day and they loved it! Looking forward to incorporating the Course completion trigger.
I'll be sure to pass along your feedback to our team, Richard! Thanks for chiming in to let us know how your clients are receiving these new features.
Are there any plans to include the new "publish to video" and "course completion trigger" to Storyline 3?
Hi Eric. I'm not aware of any immediate plans to add these features to Storyline 3.
Hi, I'm trying out the publish to video feature (very exciting). However, it is taking forever (it's now been about 3 hours). Can you tell me what's happening? Thank you.
Hi Andrea,
3 hours is definitely a long time! How large is your .story file? Are you publishing to a local destination on your computer? Have you also check the file name and path to see that it doesn't include any special characters or is close to exceeding the 260 character limit?
If you can share a copy of your .story file here with us, I'm also happy to test publishing it to a video file. You can share that by clicking here and inserting them into a new discussion comment. Look for the Add Attachment button. Thanks!
The Publish to Video feature is great and came along when I needed to publish to YouTube. However, is there any way to change the resolution from the standard options? In YouTube, the video displays with large black bars to either side.
It seems that YouTube likes 1024 by 568 to completely fill the window. I tried just typing in those numbers to override the standard options and ST 360 shut down. Thanks.
I wanted to chime in here. If your course has multiple audio files, it will not work. I contacted tech support, and there is a limit to the number of audio files that can be on each slide or the video will not publish. This is a known issue that they have not resolved.
Anthony,
I just published a video from a 20-minute course that had about 35 slides with audio tracks on all of them. It published without any problems. Some of the slides had 3-4 audio tracks. Interested in hearing from others on this as I've not experienced that issue. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to seeing what's up with that.

I have upgraded to latest Storyline v3.13 however, I can't access the "Track using complete course trigger" as the radio button appears in grey. I understand that I need to select this to have the completion trigger of the CONTINUE button to work in my Rise course. I need the learner to complete the two Storyline slide activity in the Storyline block before continuing. Is there something else I need to do to make this work? (I've attached my Storyline activity)
You would need to add a Complete trigger for this to be selectable, although as I understand it Rise will work if you set it to track by number of slides as well
Thank you. Here's the file.
Quick question and this may be the wrong forum. For the course completion trigger--it communicates with the LMS. What if you don't have an LMS? Is there any way to track course completion? Thanks,
Andrea/Ashley
Fyi-
My system produced the video in 14 minutes. I suspect it has something to do with the memory/processing power of the computer system you are publishing from. Remember, that when the content is published into a video, there is no interactivity included.
Richard
Hi,
Hmm, weird. Thank you for trying. And you've answered my other question
which was do I keep any interactivity.
You are welcome.
Hi Heather,
We only support tracking using an LMS, but there are lots of folks in the community who may be able to help you set up something custom! I'd suggest starting a new discussion with your specific needs and set up.
Thanks Richard for the help.
Andrea, if you still need help with publishing to video, let me know. It may be easiest to work with our Support Engineers for some one on one help too!
I published an activity that I was working on and I couldn't get the Replay videos that I had in the SL360 file to play. I ended up doing a capture through SL360 and then it would work. The quality however is very poor. I'm trying to come up with a solution using a different product. I'm really disappointed in the 360 product. I'm sorry our company went ahead and purchased it. This isn't finished but this is what I've got.
Hi Anji,
Could you share one of these Replay files so that we can take a look at testing it in Storyline?
As for the quality of your video, what did you use for the publish settings?
I'm excited about the publish to video file, but where should I see that? Should it be one of my publishing options? If so - that doesn't seem to be the case for me - is there something I need to do get these updates?
Hi Shelley
in the build released on 23 January this feature was included. Which version are you running? Here is a link to the SL360 version history
and here is where you should see it in the publishing window
I am unable to get the publish to video feature to work. I have submitted my file to support and I waiting on a reply. I am using the current version of 360 and it takes over 6 hours for the video to encode and it appears to stop slide 1.21 of 1.43. Is this a bug in SL360.
Hi Trina,
I was wondering why Storyline 3 doesn't get the same updates and improvements as 360. I was under the impression that they were the same product. Could you please explain to me the difference between the two products so I can go make an argument for upgrading? Thanks!
Hi Alice,
Thanks for sending your file to our Support team as well. I took a look and saw that Angelo was able to publish your file, but that it also took him a fair amount of time and he was going to share this with our team for some additional investigation. We'll keep you posted on this in your case!
