New Storyline Feature: Closed Captions

Mar 07, 2017

Hey folks,

We just released a new feature for Storyline 360: Closed Captions! This is one of our most requested features, and allows you to add closed captions to both video and audio (narration).

Storyline supports the standard Closed Caption formats in use today: .srt, .vtt, .sbv and .sub. These are super easy to create with a range of third party tools such as YouTube (we’ll add a simple caption editor in a future update, coming soon).

You can specify a custom font in player properties, and choose whether to use a built in player control or roll your own button with the new Player.DisplayCaptions trigger. As you’d expect, everything works seamlessly across desktop, tablets and phones.

Check out Arlyn’s video for more info:

And here's the full Closed Captions Documentation.

To get started, just update your 360 Desktop App and then update Storyline 360.

For an overview of everything in the March ’17 update, see our What’s New Page

Thanks,

Simon

This is not the case. We're already getting clients complaining about font size in captions. At the moment we are really up against it to make them bigger. Works in HTML5, but not in Flash if you increase the scale of the text in the player settings. Please fix this asap.

OK, I didn't realise you could do that. When I take the player font to 200% it looks OK. What problems have occurred at these larger %s?

It just seems odd that I have to make it this size to fit with the 20pt body text, 40pt heading, 30pt subheading and a screen size of 1240 x 700 stipulated by Marketing. It's much larger than the default Storyline suggests.

Hey folks! I'm happy to let you know that we just released Update 12 for Storyline 360, and you can check out the new features and fixes here!

Specifically included in this version is a fix to address the issues that occurred after changing the player font size, such as misaligned topbar tabs and incorrectly sized closed captions in the Flash output. Simply update Storyline to the latest version and republish your project to see the fix. Here's how updating Storyline 360 works.

I'm happy to hear how you make out!
