New theme's layouts not being applied consistently

Feb 13, 2019

Hi, everyone.

I've been encountering what might be a bug. Recently, I updated my theme with larger font sizes in the heading and main text box.

When I apply this theme to an existing project, some of the slides automatically display the new font size in the layout, while for others I have to manually go in and change the font (re-applying the appropriate layout doesn't work). I can't see a pattern as to the slides this happens with.

Any advice?

Thanks!

Allan

Hey Allan,

I can see you're trying to build in some efficiency based on your questions, but you're still trying to nail it down.

You mention updating your theme, are you doing this via Design > Fonts > Create New Theme Fonts? Size is not an option there, so I'm curious where you are making your changes:

Any chance we could take a look at a few slides? I'm curious if the fields are different and that's why you are not seeing those slides update as expected.

With your permission, I'd like to take a look at your project file to investigate what's happening. You can share it publicly here, or send it to me privately by uploading it here. I'll delete it when I'm done troubleshooting.

Thank you, Leslie.

Here's a stripped-down version of the theme I'm using.

The 'Main' layout is the most commonly used one in all my projects, and it's here that I adjust the font size in the text boxes with 'Heading' and 'Click to edit Choice text styles' inside. I've been highlighting the text and changing the size that way.

It's not applying consistently. I've tried simplified files with only a handful of slides, and still have the same issue. Is there a cleaner way to do this?

Muchas gracias!

Allan

Thanks for the response, Leslie. Yes, this is how I'm changing the font.

For some reason, when I apply the updated theme to a project, the font sizes don't change automatically. Even when I go in to reapply the layout to specific slides, the change doesn't happen--I have to change the font size in those slides manually.

Scratching my head over this issue. I would try sending along a file in which this is happening, yet there is too much copyrighted material included in these that I can't share.

Hey Allan,

I definitely understand you not wanting to share your file due to copyrighted material.

Instead, could you import one of the slides into a new file, then remove all proprietary information from that slide?

You could also record a Peek of your steps and share the Review 360 link with us.

We'd love to help you get to the bottom of this!

Finally able to delve back into this--thanks for your patience, Leslie and Alyssa.

I've tried replicating the issue and can't get it to work with any file that I strip down ( I spent about an hour and a half trying to do it this evening). Kind of like when you take your car into the shop, and it stops making that noise. :)

If I can put together a (non) working example, I'll send it along. Thanks again!
