New to Publishing in Storyline

Aug 16, 2013

I created my first Storyline project.  The interactive qualities work when I'm in Articulate.  The problem I'm having is when I publish the project to Web or CD I cannot see the project to play it when I open the file.

Very frustrated.   I want to copy the project to a CD and also send the project in an email.  When I tried to send in an email from the Publish screen, the attachment opens to nothing.  I saved the file to my desktop, but when I attach it to an email, it cannot be seen when I open it as an attachment.

I read the Publish tutorial, but can't save the project and open it no matter what I've tried.

Can you advise?

Hi Barbara,

You mentioned saving it to your desktop, which if you view published Storyline content on your local hard drive, you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail. To properly test your published output, you'll want to test it within it's intended environment as described here.

If you choose the "Publish to CD" option, you'll want to double-click the Launch_Story.exe file in the published output to view the course.

If you need additional help and can't get your course to publish at all, please feel free to send your .story file to our team by submitting a Support case.

Thank you all for your suggestions about creating a ZIP FILE and then how to send Published project in an email.   Also, I'm trying  the instructions I received from you on publishing to CD  with success.  Need to talk with our OIT about the server and will then try publishing to Web.  Feeling better about publishing.

New Problem---Found that the video I have in the project containing a slideshow, resource documents and a video, the video doesn't play after I published the project to "C:" drive and copied it to my desktop.  When viewing the project, the button trigger opens to static video slide.  Any suggestions of how to fix this?

Appreciate the help you've given me.

Hi Barbara,

As Phil mentions, you'll want to run the .exe file from the CD folder that was created in the publish - if you're looking to test the web version, you'll need to test it within a web environment. As described in the article before:

If you don't have access to a web server, here are a few free options to consider:

  • Tempshare: This is a free service provided by Articulate for testing Storyline content. Note: Uploaded files will be deleted after 10 days.
  • Amazon S3: Amazon S3 offers free hosting with generous usage limits. If you go over your limit, you'll be charged a graduated fee.
  • Dropbox: Place your published output in the Public folder in your Dropbox account to share it with others.
  • Google Drive: Change the story.html file to index.html, and set the sharing permissions to PublicHere's how.
