Newby Navigation Button Problems

Aug 24, 2020

I have been using presenter for a long time and now I'm trying to switch over to Storytime when I don't really have time to learn it and search for this answer. I have searched and after 30+ minutes I just have to ask.

I created a navigation page with 4 buttons. I created 4 additional pages and each button is to navigate to a separate page.  I add a trigger to one of the buttons to navigate to the appropriate page.  I then apply a trigger to the second button and set it to navigate to that specific page. Sounds simple enough to continue but then I discovered button one now triggers to the same page as button 2. In fact when I change a navigation trigger to any of the buttons it changes it to all of the buttons. I want to use storyline but don't have time to search for an answers around every corner.

What you are describing is symptomatic of corruption in the file. The first step is to close out SL, and restart your computer. If that doesn't clear it up, you need to recreate this slide and the buttons new from scratch. Start by deleting the buttons first and recreating them, and if that doesn't work, delete the slide.

To answer your other question, log into this forum with a computer (not a browser on a phone), click Add Attachment, and browse to your .story file.

By the way, if you don't want your signature showing (frequently happens if you post using a phone), click the Actions button below the post, choose edit, and you can delete it.

Thank you. I have recreated the entire project since it was only 5 slides. If it would be possible could you answer a few other questions?

* I wanted to return to my post and report back but I can't find it. Is there an easy way to find and return to my posts?
* Before creating a new project I deleted slide 1.1 and selected new slide but it now became slide 1.5 and it would no longer be the first slide my users see. Is there a fix for this?
* After creating the new project and adding the 4 buttons to slide 1.1 I wanted to distribute them evenly vertically on the slide. I selected all 4 buttons but the arrange menu no longer offered that option like it did yesterday on the previous project. I could align left, right, center but not distribute evenly.
* It seems the only way to name the slides was to put a title name on the slide. Is there another way especially if I want a blank slide that displays a youtube video. I don't want an untitled slide.

I would be willing to post if I knew how to return to my original posts for answers.

Thanks again for being there

Hi Thomas,

  1. You can always easily get back to posts by selecting the view button in the email. You can also do a search for you name on the site.
  2. You easily move your new slide up to the top to be your first slide in Storyline. From the list of slides that display on the left, drag your slide to the top of the list of slides and drop it where you want it to appear.  You will little green arrows showing you where it will place.
  3. If you have any object selected you should be able to see the distribute options. If you can't see it, you might post your project for someone to look at it for you.
  4. You can name a slide by double clicking on the name in the list of slides to the left. When you double click the name, it will enter you into the rename mode. You can also right click the name and select rename from the context menu.

I hope that helps,

Dave
