Newly added character states don't appear as an option in older triggers

Apr 23, 2015

In SL2, I have noticed an issue when attempting to add a new character state to an old trigger. All the old character states appear as options in the old triggers, but any new character states that I have added after creating the original trigger, don't appear in that's trigger's list of state options. The only workaround is for me to add a brand new trigger and only then can I see the new character state from the the available options. Is this normal behavior?

Hi, Pano --

Would you be able to clarify a little bit what you mean by old character states vs. new character states, or could you provide your file so we may take a look? And also, can you please confirm that you are using the most recent Update of SL2?

Some other things to check would be to make sure you are working locally as described here, and you may want to try importing the file into a new file. If you are still having issues and are running the most recent update of SL2, you might want to try to repair Storyline.

Hi Chistine,

The issue is more of a trigger process problem that's not immediately obvious if you look at my story file. I'm also not able to share my file due to company policies.

Here is an example of what I see. If I add an illustrated character state through the state tab, say "state 1", and apply it to "slide trigger 1", everything works fine. However, if I decide to create a new character state, say "state 2", from the state tab and then return to the same "slide trigger 1", the new state does not appear in the list so I can't apply it to that trigger.

The only way I can apply a new character state to a trigger is to create a whole new trigger. Is this normal behavior?
