Next button flashes at beginning of slide

Mar 12, 2015

Hello All!

I'm experiencing an issue across several courses. Since we upgraded to SL2, we have been hiding the Next button on slides with interactivity so the learner has to view all of the material. We set up our trigger to change the state of the Next button to hidden when the timeline starts on the slide. It changes to Normal once the material has been viewed.

The issue arises at the beginning of the slide. The Next button will appear for a split-second at the very start of it and then disappears. This happens more on slides that are heavier in content. If I try to duplicate this on a slide with only buttons and very little content, I don't get the same effect. Is anyone else noticing this "flashing" of the Next button and/or have any workarounds?

Thanks!

Emily,

Thanks for the response! We do make sure to work locally, and we've seen this in all of our courses, including published content. I haven't tried importing it into a new file because it's happening in so many of our courses.

I think it's less noticeable when trigging the Next button to Disabled rather than Hidden, but it does still flash with that trigger as well.

Hi Shyla,

I took a look at Katie's case and it was for Storyline 2. The modification made to help prevent this was to:

to modify your trigger to use "When timeline reaches 0" instead of 'when timeline starts.'

Are you using Storyline 2 or a newer version? I do see that we have an issue reported to our team in Storyline 360 where a delay occurs when player navigation controls changes its state and you've applied a transition on a slide. Does that match what you're seeing?

Greetings, Jonathan!

I'm happy to troubleshoot the flashing with you.

First, does your project have any slide transitions by chance? If so, we have an open issue where:

  • Delay in the player navigation controls changing states when there are slide transitions

Let me know if that's a match! Also, we're happy to connect with you privately. Simply use this support case link.

Hi Jonathan!

Thank you for adding these additional details! This is still an open issue, so we'll log this conversation into the bug report to gather information regarding customer impact. If you'd like us to look at the project you're working on to see if there is a workaround, I'd recommend starting a support case with our Support Engineers!

I'll keep an eye out for your support case and follow along to see what the fix might be!
