Next button normal if Resume saved state when revisiting

Jun 26, 2020

Hi all,
I'm a newbie to StoryLine 360 and are struggling with the Next button when revisiting a slide. I've tried several tips found here in Heroes but none of them seems to work for my project and most of the tips are several years old.

My problem is that the Next-button is disabled when revisiting the slide.
I've made my own navigation buttons set to disabled when timeline starts on the slide and different actions to make before the Next-button is available/normal. It works like a charm on all my slides except from one.

This slide has 4 rectangles with selected and visited states. When all the rectangles are visited the Next-button is available/normal just like I want but when revisiting, the Next-button is disabled if slide property is set to Resume saved state. If set to Reset to Initial state the Next button works but I would like the rectangles to show selected state when revisiting.

I've attached a print screen of the slide.

Kind regards,

Tonje

I have been having this same issue. One "fix" would be to create a true/false variable for 'slide complete' with a default value of false. Change the state of this variable to true at the same time you change the state of the next button. Change the slide properties to be "reset to initial state." Add triggers to change the state of each of your rectangles to visited when the slide timeline starts if your 'slide complete' variable = true.

Really this feels like a bug and I hope they fix it in the future.

Hello Tonje and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)

Thanks for contacting us and sharing what you are experiencing. You mention that you have a few slides with a similar set-up and only one is not working.

With your permission, I'd like to take a look at your project file to investigate what's happening. You can share it publicly here, or send it to me privately by uploading it here. I'll delete it when I'm done troubleshooting.

Hi Leslie,

Thank you for your response. I had planned to upload my project for you today but thought I should test it again after upgrading to the new version that was released earlier this week and now it's working just fine.

Is there any way that I could get e-mail notification on responses to my posts?

Hi Leslie,

I wasn't auto-subscribed and didn't think of the subscribe button. Thank you.

Unfortunately I was to quick in my response to the Next button working after the new version. I've been working on another project the last weeks and discovered by re-testing today that the Next button doesn't work when re-visiting.

I've tried Sally's work around but didn't get it to work.

Some of the slides where the Next button is working are where there are elements triggering layers and where the state of the elements are visited. These base layers are set to Automatically decide. But there is inconsistency on these slides as well.

I'll upload my project file to the link in your previous answer.

Hello Camilla and welcome to E-Learning Heroes. 😊

We were able to help Tonje in her support case, but in reviewing it looks like she has a very specific set-up with custom buttons and layers and was not using the built-in navigation.

Would you be able to describe the problem you are seeing? I'd be happy to help.
