Next button not working when upgrading from Storyline 1 to 2

Sep 21, 2014

Hi,

I have just downloaded the trial version of Storyline 2 and it looks great.

However, I am having problems with the 'Next' button when upgrading courses from Storyline 1 to Storyline 2. In the upgraded format, the Next button doesn't work. If I build the course from scratch in a new Storyline 2 project then I have no problems. I have upgraded three of my earlier courses into Storyline 2 and the same issue occurs every time.

Could someone please help me with this?

Thanks
Shalini

Hello Shalini, and welcome to Heroes!

I have created a test file in Storyline 1, and then upgraded it to Storyline 2 and did not have any issues with the next button. Please make sure you are working locally with your files as described here.

If you could attach a copy of an SL1 project file you have for us to look at, you can do so with the paperclip icon.

Also, you may want to look at this article about unexpected behavior in Storyline 2.

Hi Emily,

Thank you for your prompt response.

I was running my Storyline files from a shared drive so I tried again from my hard drive however, the next button is still not working.

I have attached the Storyline 1 file to this message.

Thanks again for your help.

Hello Shalini,

I was able to open your file in SL2 and upgrade its properties.

The Next button is now working. Attached is the file.

The navigation in the player was set to Restricted. If you have this is restricted, the user will have to wait until the entire content plays through each slide before they can hit next. The slide 1.2 was set at over 20 seconds. The next button worked after that time played through. You could either set the player menu Navigation Restriction to Free, or you could keep it as restricted and shorten the slide timeline, as i did in the attached file (changed to 8 seconds), or you could keep it as restricted, and show the seekbar on the slide to let users know when it is over and they can click the next button.

Let us know if you need anything further!

Hi Emily,

Sorry for the late response.

Thank you so much for your response and updating the properties.

In the earlier version of Storyline I set the navigation as 'Restricted' so learners couldn't go ahead using the Menu without completing each topic however, it would still let me use the Next button without having to wait for the entire content to play through each slide.

Am I still able to do that with Storyline 2?

Thanks

Hello Shalini!

When you set the navigation to restricted, users will not be able to skip ahead using the next button until the timeline completes. They can go back, and then forward again, but the next button is restricted until the timeline of each slide completes. What you can do is shorten the timeline of the slide if you wan the users to be able to click through faster, or you can set the navigation to Free.

Here is some information on the customizing the player menu in Storyline 2.

I'm having the same problem and am a bit annoyed that I'm now going to have to go through my whole course and check the length of the timelines (which I'm re-publishing after a minor correction but have upgraded to Storyline 2 since my initial publish).  I think this is rather an unnecessary restriction.  Can we please have the original functionality back again.
