Next button/variable help
Dec 22, 2016
Hi everybody,
Hoping for a bit of help, or insight into a problem I've been having.
My company want to disable the next button for some e-Learning content on the slides, so users don't skip ahead. I have done this by:
1. Using a 'false' variable, and using a trigger to change it to 'true' once the content has been clicked on.
2. I then change the state of the next button to disabled when the timeline starts.
3. I then change the state of the next button to 'normal' either when the state of my content is visited OR when my named variable changes.
This seems to work the first time the module loads up, however, if I click the previous button and then re-click the content again, the next button is still disabled.
If anybody could let me know if there's an alternative way of disabling the next button, or if I'm doing anything wrong, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks!

Hi Ati
see if the attached sample helps you
Hi.
Try to set reset slide to initial state.(Slide properties)
So any time you'll revisit slide the button should be disabled.
Good luck!
Hi Alex,
I've attempted to reset the slide to initial state, but when I click the previous button + then re-click the content, the button is still disabled, and won't allow me to proceed.
Hi Wendy,
The file is very helpful, thanks. Can you explain what I would need to do as well, just to make sure I'm doing it correctly? I'm relatively new to Storyline 2 - only been working with it for around 6 months!
Hi Ati
mine was just one example without knowing exactly how your file works. If you want to upload your .story file and let me know which slide is not working and I can take a look for you.
Hi Wendy,
I have attached a file that replicates the same issue I am having.
Thanks,
Hi Ati

Hi Wendy,
I've copied and pasted the triggers (slide properties and names are the same as my original) but it doesn't appear to work on my actual e-Learning lesson.
Can you explain what you did to fix the issue?
Thanks,
Hi Ati
If you compare the triggers in my example to yours you can see I have removed the 'set variable' trigger from the first slide (the variable is changed by trigger on the lightbox slide) and changed conditions on the Next button triggers
