Next Buttons
Jul 16, 2012
Just started with Storyline and created my first tutorial....my issue is that the "Next" button is not working. It automatically forwards to the next slide, not allowing users to click "Next" to move forward.
In Triggers, I have Player Triggers - Jump to next slide - when user clicks the next button. When I preview the tutorial, it automatically moves to next slide when audio ends.
What am I doing wrong?
Thank you for any help!

Hi Lynette,
Did you by chance import a PowerPoint? One time I imported a PowerPoint, and Storyline automatically assigned Slide triggers (not Player triggers) that said to jump to the next slide when the timeline ends.
Also check your audio trigger(s) - you may have that set to jump to the next slide when the audio ends.
Bottom line - I would look for any triggers that talk about jumping to the next slide when either the timeline ends or the media completes.
Let us know if you still need assistance.

I did import a PowerPoint and deleted the trigger to jump to next slide when timeline ends. I have the trigger to jump to next slide when user clicks the next button...see below
Hi Lynette,
Could you also put a screenshot of the trigger panel for this slide?
It may provide information that could help figure it out...
Have a nice day!

Thank you for any help you can provide!!
That is quite bizarre! Is it possible for you to upload the .story file or a few slides?
I figured it out! I hid the Slide Properties some how and didn't realize I needed to select "By User" for Slide Advances option. Ah, they joys of trying something during the free trial without training!
Don't bother... the community is here to help you.
We are quite a few here that were part of the beta and learnt it all (or almost) by ourself, and still learning new stuff everyday.
Give yourself some time to experiment, start with small projects or interaction, just to get used to the functionnality.
And, most important of all, don't hesitate to post questions on the forum when you need it.

I have been working with Storyline for a couple of months now and today I have one slide that the object trigger is not working. I placed a button on a layer, set the trigger to jump to a slide, but the button does not seem to work. I deleted and put in a new button with the jump to slide, but still does not work. Thoughts?

Hi Pamela,
The first thing that comes to my mind is that if you are testing it through Preview, make sure you are previewing either the whole scene or the whole project depending on the location of both slides. You won't be able to jump to a slide that is not previewed.
Hope it helps and don't hesitate to post back if you need further information.
Annie
Hi Annie,
I am previewing the entire project. Any other suggestions?
Pamela
Can either post the project or screenshots with the trigger pane and slide and timeline visible.
Annie,
As I look at the slides in stoyview, the arrows move from the center of one slide to the next, except on the slide that will not move forward. This slide shows an arrow on the right side of the non-working slide to the right side of the slide I am trying to jump to. When I click on this arrow between slides, the trigger opens shoing jump to slide, then the correct slide I want to go to, when user clicks next. I am really stumped.

Pamela,
If I understood well your first post, you were talking about a custom button placed on a layer.
In your last post, you talk about a trigger saying "When user clicks next" : is "next" your custom button or would it be the buit-in function?
Yes. I clicked on Insert - Button - then on the top right blue button. I applied a trigger to the button to jump to a specific slide. The button does not work for some reason.
As Phil suggested, could you either post the file or a screenshot of your trigger panel?
It is really difficult to fix this without either the project or visuals, it may be something very obvious or it may be a bug.
