No Audio after published in Storyline

Sep 25, 2013

Hi All,

Does anyone came across audio issues with Storyline?

I have recently upgraded to Windows 7 and Storyline is not able to publish with audio.

Strangely, audio was intact while previewing the entire slides and I could hear it. But not after I published it.

Why is that so?

I have tried exporting the current track(MP3) and re-import it onto slides via "Insert" > "Sound from files" but still the audio doesnt show up after publishing it.

Any solution to this? Anyone experiencing this issue too or am I the lucky one?

Thanks!!

Hi Daphne and welcome to Heroes!

How are you testing your published output? You'll want to test it within the intended environment as described here.

Also, you'll want to make sure that when creating and editing your Storyline file, you're working locally (including the audio files), that you keep file names limited to well under the 260 character limit of Microsoft, and that you're not using any special characters or accents in the file names.

If you're able to share your .story file here with us I'm happy to test it out on my machine. If you'd prefer to not share it in the forums, you can also send it to us privately here.

I'm having the exact same issue right now. I have audio in the preview but when i publish and others try to view the course there is no audio. Also i have hover states that the text doens't show up on some pc's but it works on others.

Hi Randy,

Hover states within HTML5 have limited support in mobile Safari.  This article describes some more of the limitations of mobile Safari, and suggestions on how to properly test that it'll work before you deploy for HTML5 viewing in mobile Safari.

i had problems not displaying the change of states and audio problems on pc's and macs using firefox.

Hi - I am having this issue today.  I am saving/publishing locally, I tried using .wav and .mp3 files as the audio, and I am using IE8.  Still no audio - though it is there in Preview.  In case it's pertinent, this is the first time I am publishing with Windows7 - just got upgraded to it last week when I got a new laptop.  Had been on XP prior with no issues for over a year.

I am publishing to "web" so that I can post the module on sharepoint - which is how we have our business partners review the content/audio/interactions for final comments/edits prior to publishing to LMS.

Any ideas?

Hi Kristin,

Are you testing the published version within Sharepoint or from the published output saved on your local drive?  You'll want to test within the intended environment.

Additionally, is it just the one Storyline file with an issue, or are you able to replicate it within another Storyline file? If it's the latter, I'd suggest conducting the repair to resolve any issues.

Hi All

I have the same problem with a "module" that we develop for a client.

Our test computers are on windows vista, windows 8 and Mac OS. We do encounter any problems internally.

However, the client is on windows 7 and it does not hear the sound on Firefox or IE. So I think the problem is in Windows 7. Were you able to find solutions to this? I am very worried about this problem.

Thank you in advance.

PS: excuse my broken English I'm french and do not speak English very well.

Hi Yann -

I don't have a solution - but I had someone else test it once I had uploaded it to the web - everyone but me was able to hear the audio fine.  So, I was able to roll out my module to our group.  Maybe have someone else test for audio and maybe it's just a weird Windows 7 glitch for the author?

PS - Your English is great!

Hi Yann and welcome to Heroes!

Do you know what version of Firefox or IE they're using? You may want to share the viewing requirements here on supported browsers and Flash versions.  If you have a link to the course, I'm happy to test it within a Windows 7 environment and a few different browsers to let you know if I experience any similar issues.

Oh, and yes - your English is great!

Hi

Kristin, Ashley, thank you for your feed back.

Ashley, thank you very much for your proposal to test the module on windows 7. For privacy reasons, I can not give you a link to the module but I extracted a screen that allows you to test.

I asked my client the IE and Firefox it uses. I await his response.

Thank you again.

Hi Maha,

Welcome to E-Learning Heroes!

First, can you tell us a little more about the type of audio you used and how you inserted the audio, please? Is this recorded narration, or did you insert via audio file? Also, if you inserted a file, what format is the audio?

How is the audio set up in the slide? Do you have it playing automatically, along with the timeline, or do you have triggers in place?

If you'd like, you're welcome to share the .story file here with us. Please just keep in mind that if the file exceeds 20 MB, you may run into trouble attaching it to the thread.

Thanks!
