No tincan answer statements published if Flash disabled in Browser

Dec 14, 2015

Has anyone run into this issue?  I have a web service that picks up the published tincan statements for an html5 story that is a test.  Normally, Articulate publishes the "experienced" statements, and after the "experienced result slide" statement, it then starts publishing all the "answered" statements.  Then I get the "passed" or "failed" statement at the end.  But if I take any browser, say Chrome, and disable the Adobe Flash plugin, then I only get the "experienced" statements. After the  "experienced result slide" statement, I get the "failed" statement with a score of 0, even if I answered everything correctly.  That's because there are no answered statements published.  This seems like a bug.  Any resolution?

Thanks

Hi FBS,

Thanks for reaching out here and I think we'd want to take a look at your course and how the Tin Can statements are being passed. You could also get started by testing yourself using SCORM Cloud which is an industry standard for testing LMS content and enabling the Tin Can debug mode described here.

If you could share a copy of your course and the debug info here with our Support engineers we can take a look.

I tested with SCORM cloud.  Same result.  In Chrome, with Flash enabled, score was correct.  In Chrome with Flash disabled, score was 0.  I'm sure it's because no answered statements were published.

Question.  In my environment, I run index.html to launch the story.  I guess Articulate creates that file.  It has code in there to check for Flash, ActiveX, etc.  I also see a story_html5.html in that directory.  I don't see story.html.  I assume I update index.html to enable debugging?

BTW, we use Storyline 2, Update 7: 1509.1408

Thanks

I have done all the steps above to enable debug mode (tried putting the script call in both index.html and story_html5.html.  The story runs fine, but the debug window never comes up.  Of course I don't zip up my output -- I just run my story from localhost in an IIS website.  But I also noticed one other thing in the instructions:

Enabling Debug Mode in Tin Can API Content
At this time, Tin Can API debug mode is only supported in Flash-enabled browsers. It won't work with HTML5 output.

So my whole problem is that the score is correct when Flash is enabled in the browser, but when it's not, that's when "answered" statements aren't published, and the score is 0.  But if debug mode won't work if Flash is off, which is where the problem likes, it's not going to do much good.

Hi FBS,

You mentioned testing it locally from your website - are you able to upload to your LMS for testing? Testing it locally is not recommended as you could encounter particular security restrictions.

The index.html file is a part of the LMS published output.  Since you're having difficulty getting debug mode to launch and need to test this further in HTML5 I'd like for you to work directly with our Support engineers here. Please let me know once you're able to submit a case and the case # so that I can follow along.
