Normal State of Object Fails to Load, Causes Storyline to Crash
Feb 28, 2019
I am revising a Storyline file created by a vendor. Every attempt to preview or publish the course caused a program crash. After numerous crashes, I finally found what I believe the be the culprit.
A text box is inserted into a slide layer; the layer is triggered to show when an object enters the timeline on the base slide. There are no variables attached to this or any other object in the course.
Storyline crashes when attempting to move the text box, preview the slide/scene/project, or publish the project.
What is happening is the text box will not load in States view. The spinning wheel has been spinning for 28 minutes now. I believe this failure is causing the crash, but I don't know what's preventing the States preview from loading.
The text box cannot be manipulated, selected (it can be highlighted in the timeline), or formatted in any way.
I've included a screen grab. Because this course is not for public release and contains copyrighted materials, I don't believe I can share the .story file here.
Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi there, Kevin. You mentioned that this text box cannot be manipulated. Can you right-click it in the timeline and cut it? If not, can you cut the layer and build it anew? Those would be the quickest suggestions to eliminate this corrupt little object!
Hi Crystal,
Thanks for the response. I am able to cut it and rebuild it, so I'm able to solve it that way, but I'm also curious to know why this happened, as it's something I've never encountered before.
Sure thing, Kevin. It's hard to know for sure what happened to this particular object in your file. We have some general best practices to avoid file corruption, and some of the most important tips I point out are:
Fingers crossed you don't run into any other hiccups, but if you do, we'll be here.
