Hi Rupesh. Welcome to E-Learning Heroes!

Firefox is a little limited when it comes to HTML5 content. You might want to take a look at this output comparison chart (the information for web browsers can be found toward the bottom of the article). It also depends on the type of video you're using. Check on the "Media" section in the list. For example, SWF files, YouTube videos and videos with alpha channel transparency are not supported in HTML5.

Just curious, are you able to publish your content without HTML 5?

Thanks!

Hi Christine,

Thanks for the quick reply.

Yes i am able to view my content without HTML5.

Here our main worry is we need to get this work on all platform with one source code, so we have shifted from Flash to HTML5. Due to lack of support seen for the mozilla for audio, video and few of the other interactivity i am more tense now.

BTW can you please tell me that how much support of JavaScript available for the content publish through Articulate Storyline for HTML5 in iOS devices and other browsers?

Also i agree that if we can't import WebM or OGG video in articulate storyline for the Mozilla view but is there an other options?

thanks

Hi Rupesh,

Thanks for getting back to me! In regards to options other than Firefox, you could certainly consider other browsers. I actually haven't heard of many companies turning to Firefox as their primary browser, but it really just depends on preference. I normally use Google Chrome and only turn to Firefox if I need to do testing in that browser. Internet Explorer is usually the more popular for companies, but personally I don't enjoy viewing content in that browser as much as Chrome. I like the functionality of Chrome When it comes down to content you're sharing with other users, functionality is really important. If you determine you want to keep the content in HTML5, but there's an issue with a specific browser supporting it, you could simply make a little statement similar to "This content is best viewed in Google Chrome", etc.

For your other question about JavaScript, it is not supported in the Articulate Mobile Player for iPad. You might find this article on JavaScript best practices a little more informative. Also, if you look on the chart I mentioned earlier, JavaScript is supported in HTML 5 content, but not mobile. So, it may not work, or work properly on iOS devices.

I hope I was able to answer your questions. If I missed anything, please let me know!

Have a great day, Rupesh!

Hi Christine,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I am trying to evaluate Articulate Storyline so that i can replace my flash projects with this? For that i have few questions running in my mind and which are mentioned below.

1) Can we do masking in Articulate Storyline? You must have seen this feature used how frequently in Flash and in other technology.

2) Do we have feature of key frame animation or custom animation on any of the object imported in the Articulate Storyline?

3) Is this tool advance enough to use Web Camera features?

4) Do we have event handlers in this like event for completion of Video / Audio, loading Video / Audio event, and some other features.

thanks

Good morning Rupesh,

If I understand your first question correctly, Storyline won't replace Flash. You may be able to do quite a bit with your Flash projects, however.

1) Can we do masking in Articulate Storyline? You must have seen this feature used how frequently in Flash and in other technology.

Currently, there is no masking feature in Storyline. However, we are always open to suggestions. If this is something you'd like to see in the future, please submit a feature request. You might also want to take a look at Steve Flowers' post in this thread for some suggestions.

2) Do we have feature of key frame animation or custom animation on any of the object imported in the Articulate Storyline?

Right now, animation capabilities in Storyline are limited. However, with the triggers and states, you may be able to accomplish an animation that suits your needs. Take a look a this thread for more information.

3) Is this tool advance enough to use Web Camera features?

Yes, you can record from a webcam from within Storyline. Take a look a this tutorial. You'll want to scroll down to the section on "Recording a video from a webcam".

4) Do we have event handlers in this like event for completion of Video / Audio, loading Video / Audio event, and some other features.

You can use JavaScript (this process isn't supported by Articulate, but many of our community members can give advice on this) and variables that may suit your needs.

If you would like more feedback from other community members on specific functions, feel free to post your questions in the Building Better Courses section of the forums. We have some awesome Heroes in the community that may be able to provide a little more information on some of the topics you mentioned.

I hope I was able to help with your questions. If I can give you any additional information, please let me know!

Have a great day!

Christine
