Not "Getting Started"

May 29, 2013

Hello,

Just downloaded the 30-Day free trial of Storyline but I'm atfraid that I'm not off to a good start.  When I try to launch any of the "Learning Storyline" videos it launches "Notepad" and gives me an error message saying "The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.":

Any ideas?

Thanks much. . . .

PS - I did search the forum here but didn't find anything.  Sorry if this has been asked a million times and I just missed the answer.

Shoot, sorry Ed

There a few things that might be causing it.

  • I'd first check to make sure you're not behind a firewall that might be preventing the videos from playing.
  • Did you install Storyline as the admin? Articulate software must be installed with administrative privileges.

You'll also want to be sure you're following some basic rules to prevent strange behavior:

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names.

If you continue having trouble, please don't hesitate to let our support team know

And in the meantime, you can find those same tutorials and more, right over here :)

Thanks Much Peter!

So I've uninstalled and re-installed "As Administrator" with the same results.

Can't really change my Firewall policies.

When I hit the Play button on those videos in Storyline, where is it trying to access them from?  Somewhere on the net?  If so, I can ask our IT folks to ensure we have access to that location.

For now I'll just watch the videos from the location you pointed me to, looks like that will work fine.

THANKS!
