Sounds like you're following the correct steps to disable the numbering, but I'm not sure why it's not updating. Are you working with local files?
Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names.
Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.
If you're working locally, are you able to share the .STORY file? I'd be happy to take a look and see if I experience the same issue with the numbering.
Does the numbering still shows up after publishing, as Phil suggested? If so, it may be an issue with the file itself. Please try importing the slides from your course into a new Storyline file. If you need information on how to import from an existing course, take a look at the following tutorial:
You're welcome to post the .STORY file here. If, however, you'd like to keep the file private, you're welcome to submit the file in a support case. If you'd like me to take a look, just request my attention.
You'll be able to attach the .STORY file on the second page of the following form:
Please be sure to include a description of your issue. Please also include the URL for this thread in the form. Also, please share the case number with me. You're welcome to do so here, or in a private message. This way I can follow the progress of the case and update this thread.

Christine,
It seems that the file was damaged. I have imported it into a new Storyline file and it has fixed the issue. Thank you.
I have now a new question concerning the position of the slides that have been read in the menu, I will create a new post.
Kind regards.
Etienne
HI there Etienne,
Thanks very much for the update! I appreciate it :)
I'm happy to hear you were able to find the problem and resolve it by using a new file.
I'll look out for your other question, as well.
Have a great day!
Christine
