Number of Attempts
Mar 02, 2016
Good afternoon! Is there a way to limit the number of attempts a learner can make with a course or is there a way to keep the value for a variable if the learner closes the course and comes back? For instance, we allow the learner to retry the quiz once immediately after they have completed it and do not receive a passing score. Each time we add 1 to our variable "attempts" and once the value is one, the "Retry Quiz" button is disabled. If the learner closes the course and reopens it, we do not want the course to allow them to proceed. Any thoughts?

Hi, Coy -- Thanks so much for reaching out here! Have you had a chance to take a look at this information on Limiting Quiz Attempts? You may also find this article, "Here’s How You Can Limit Quiz Retries in Articulate Storyline" to be helpful, as well. :)
Thanks for the information! I actually read through it previously and was able to set the course to allow a retry of the quiz and limit the number of retries and everything works very well. We would like to limit the number of retries to one; however, if the learner exits the course and reopens it, there is nothing to stop them from retaking the quiz again. Any thoughts?
Hi Coy!
The attempts settings within the software controls the session.
Any subsequent sessions that your user may try, must be controlled by the LMS.
Thanks! I wasn't sure. The previous authoring software we used allowed us to keep variable values between sessions and I thought maybe this one did as well and I was just overlooking it.
