Numeric Questions Not Resetting When User 'Retries Quiz'

Jan 17, 2013

Hi All,

I have imported a quiz from Quizmaker into Storyline as a Question Bank. I have 60 questions and it is setup to select 25 randomly each time.

Everything is working fine except that if the learner selects 'Retry Quiz' at the end, the numeric answers do not reset to blank if they appear in the next quiz - they appear with the last answer entered already showing. This doesn't happen with any other question type that I have in the quiz - they all reset to the initial state and work well.

I tried changing the Revisiting settings on the Numeric questions from Auto to Initial State and this had no affect. I also tried a trigger to reset the answer to blank after the answer had been submitted and that worked but then the answer didn't appear in the Review (I can live with this but it looks odd).

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Hi again, Mirren

Just wanted to update the thread and let you know that we were able to duplicate the issue you reported. The issue is specific to Numeric questions included in Question Banks, so we've sent it along to the QA team for further testing.

I'll be sure to update here as soon as I receive any updates.

Thanks again for bringing it to our attention!

Hi Gavin,

The fill in the blank questions still do not reset automatically on a try again - but on a quiz retry they should. Are you using the same set up as Mirren? A potential workaround is to set the TextEntry variable to (blank) when the timeline starts if reviewQuiz is equal to False (so you'll adjust the variable when the user starts the quiz Review).

I found two other threads with ideas on how to ensure the fill in the blank resets - this one offers the solution to add a trigger to reset, and this thread has a few different options discussed by community members.
