NVDA picks up Closed Captioning

Sep 16, 2020

I am getting some interesting behavior where the NVDA screen reader is picking up the closed captioning. If I down-arrow through the tab order while closed captions are on, the screen reader will read the displayed caption as if it is the last item in the tab order. I cannot down-arrow to the next line of the closed captioning, and the behavior ends as soon as the closed captioning is over. Is anybody else experiencing this? Is this planned behavior?

Thanks,

Pierre

Hello Pierre!

I'm not seeing the same behavior with NVDA and closed captioning. Which version of Storyline are you using? We are currently on Storyline 360 Update 43 (Build 3.43.22859.0).

Closed captions are currently not available in the Tab Order. Are you using custom closed captioning?

Thanks for sharing this with us! I'm looking forward to understanding what you see on your end.

Hi Pierre!

Thank you for sharing your file! It looks like I misunderstood your initial question. A screen reader will read off whatever is on the slide and since the closed captioning is turned on, then the closed captioning should be read as well. I've tested your course using JAWS and NVDA. Both are reading off what is currently on the slide.

What you're seeing is expected behavior. Please let me know if you have any additional questions!
