Object State does not return to Normal (default state)

Mar 27, 2014

Hi,

I have 2 buttons set up to change the state of an object from Normal to state 1 or state 2 depending on which button is hovered over. The trigger dialog box has a checkbox defaulted to checked, return to Normal State on rollout.

The object is a rectangle with an image in each state, Normal, State 1 and State 2.

On hover the buttons go to the correct states however when I move the curser off the buttons the object does not go back to the default Normal state. Instead I see a blank rectangle.

I am using the button click triggers to show a new layer, in case you were wondering.

I can uncheck the trigger checkbox and this maintains the current state but its not quite what I wanted.

What am I doing wrong please.

Thanks

Bruce

Hi Bruce,

Thanks for sharing the file here - there was something happening with your hotspot that covers your entire slide, as it was set to restore on mouse leave meaning when you were not hovering on the hotspot the blank rectangle showed where the people where. Instead I set it up to remove that checkmark and now everything seems to be behaving normally.

Hello Alex and Ashley,

Thank you for your input into solving the problem I was experiencing. Your solution of using a mega hotspot was one I had already considered as a temporary fix. However after further investigation I discovered that any object that has states can have only one item in each state or the Normal state disappears. In my example each state had images and text and a shape. To solve this I screen grabbed each state to end up with an image which I imported for each state.

Hope that is useful to someone else.

Glad you got there in the end, I am having a very similar issue, still can't figure out why it's happening, will post it up once I'm finished (it's only 1 and 20 layers, for elearning challenge, shouldn't take long). Tried lots of different work arounds, making the state into a single picture as per your method Bruce, making it a new state without built in function and triggering, using a standard built in states etc,  but can't seem to get it working! Looks like a bug, but I'll let everyone else here take a look when I've finished.

Hi Bruce,

Were you able to test the file I shared? Did it not match the behavior you were looking for?

I have used additional objects within states before, so it would seem odd that is what you're experiencing. What update of Storyline are you using? We're currently on update 5.

Alex,

If you're able to share your file here with us we'll be happy to take a look.
