I'm trying to make a game. I have an image/object and want it to go left and right, using the left and right keys. My "on clicks" work, but "user presses a key" doesn't, no matter which keys I try.
I'm using a normal Microsoft QWERTY keyboard that has no known functional problems.
I'm happy to help! First off, which version of Storyline 3 are you using? We just released Storyline 3 (Build 3.11.23355.0) in October 2020.
Next, a slight change should do the trick! Can you change the second object to the slide rather than the picture? Currently, the trigger says to move the motion path with the user presses the left key when the timeline starts on Picture 1. A timeline starts on an object when it is clicked. With the way it is, learners would have to click on Picture 1 and then press the Left button to move the motion path. Instead, you want the learner to press the left key for the motion path to start. Here's is the object I'm referring to in the trigger:
Hey it worked! Thank you. I do have a follow up question:
Are there any tricks to making this left or right motion smooth (like you would see in any game)? I did relative start point, but it still feels very clunky and jerky. Are there any examples of settings, etc.?
So glad that worked! I think this article on Fine-Tune Motion Paths will be helpful for you. It's based on Storyline 360, but the same settings apply to Storyline 3.
