On iPad, 2nd drag & drop target locked before tapping Submit

Oct 13, 2014

Greetings! I'm seeing strange behavior when using the Matching Drag and Drop question type on the iPad.

I have an assessment project that requires iPad support. I built a short Storyline project that has a couple of intro slides, a draw from a question bank, a results slide, and a certificate. The question bank consists of several question types, including Matching Drag and Drop. I'm publishing the content and posting to SCORM Cloud for testing. Because we're supporting iPads, I'm selecting the HTML5 option when publishing (the client is not using the Articulate Mobile Player).

When I test on the iPad, I can answer the Matching Drag and Drop questions with no trouble, but there's a problem if I want to change my answers before I tap Submit. After matching each draggable item (right column) to a target (left column), I can change my answers by dragging an item and dropping it on a new target. This "redragged" item connects to the new target, displacing the item previously matched to that target. (This is the expected behavior.)

However, I can't redrag an item--any item--onto the second target from the top. I can redrag any item onto any other target, and I can redrag the item from the second target onto any other target, but the second target from the top appears to be unable to accept a redragged item.

As far as I can tell, I haven't done anything different or inconsistent in building the Matching Drag and Drop questions. My sample story (attached) has two different Matching Drag and Drop questions in its question bank, and they both exhibit this behavior.

I'm new to Storyline, so I could easily have messed something up when I created this story, but I haven't been able to find anything.

Has anyone else seen this issue? Any ideas on what's going on?

I'd be grateful for any insight anyone can provide... Thanks!

Hello Kevin!

Thank you for the file. I published this to HTML5 and tested on an iPad 7.1.2 and an iPad mini 8.0, and i was not able to reproduce the issue.

I was able to change all of the drag and drop items, including the second from the top.

Please make sure you are working locally as described here, and you can also check the system requirements for viewing on iPads to make sure you are in a compatible browser.

Emily,

Thanks for looking into this.

I'm using Mobile Safari on an iPad 4 running iOS 7.1.2, so browser compatibility doesn't seem to be the issue.

Could you clarify what you mean by "working locally"? (I know it says "as described here", but I'm not seeing a link.) Sorry if this is a dumb question... Thanks!

Emily,

Thanks! I wasn't aware that working from a network drive might be an issue.

To be safe, I built the sample story again from scratch, working on my local drive. I published it to my local drive (using the LMS options), zipped it, and posted it to SCORM Cloud. When I access this version of the course using my iPad, I'm seeing the same behavior I described above.

Would it be helpful to send you a link to the course on SCORM Cloud, so you can see it where I'm seeing it?
