Only first trigger for object executes from Master Slide

I am trying to place a slide counter on the master slide so no matter how many slides I have it will count them.

This works except when I try going backward with the previous button.

I have two trigger on the previous button in the master slide:

1. Go to previous slide when user clicks prev

2. Subtract 1 from slide count when user click prev

Only the first trigger works.  In the above situation the slides change to previous slide but the counter remains the same.  If I reverse the order of the triggers then the counter goes down but the slide does not change

How to I get around this behavior?
