Onscreen text changes when picture is added to screen

Jun 26, 2017

I have an ARROW BUTTON that overlays an image on top, that says NEXT. When the NEXT image appears, the on screen text moves ever so slightly.

The effect seems most visible in Chrome and Opera, not really noticeable in Firefox, IE or Edge.

The slide loops so that it looks like the image is 'pulsing'.

I have created a slide with larger text to show off this effect.

I have also tried to code the BUTTON as a state change, and the effect is still there, however less noticeable.

Also around the edges of the screen, there is a red line that faintly appears, on the slide there is a red background, however it is completely covered by a white square. I have left this in so that people can see the effect.

A possible workaround is to have the text as an image, however I haven't done this yet, as the project is still in production.

I have included a storyline file as well for testing purposed.

Has anyone experienced this behaviour from Storyline before?

Hi Jeffrey,

Thanks for including the link--the movement is slight, but I can definitely see it.

Try removing the "fade in" animation on the Next button image. I tried that, and it seemed to fix the problem. However, I don't have the same font installed, so I'd want to double check it on your end.

Also, I'm not seeing the red line you mentioned. Could you send a screenshot of it?

Hi Alyssa,

Thank you for looking into my problem.

Here is a screencast of the problem, it is the PREVIEW mode in Storyline.

I have mucked around with the original test file, so the red doesn't appear.

However, you can see the effect at the top and right hand side of the screen, it is particularly noticeable in the top right corner of the screen

It's like the fade causes the viewing area to shrink slightly.

I will test some other ways of implementation as I'd like to keep the fade effect for the introduction.

Hi Jeffrey,

Thanks for the video of the behavior - I can see it too, although as Alyssa mentioned it is slight and removing the fade associated with the next button didn't show the odd flash on the edge.

I can report it to our team as a possible bug so that they can dig into it a bit deeper.

I'll keep you posted here once I have any additional information to share, so thank you for your patience and I'm sorry it's causing you such a headache.

Hi there, Jeffrey. We fixed the issue you reported where the fade animation on a button was causing some odd flashing.

Install the latest Storyline 360 update to take advantage of all the recent features and fixes. Here's how.

If the problem happens again, please record a Peek 360 screencast for me, and I'll be happy to help!
