"Open Parent Document'" button

Nov 27, 2012

I've just started using Storyline, so I'm new to this. I need to create courses that can be viewed in IE8, on an iPad, and through assistive software such as ZoomText and Jaws.

I created a short course and sent it to a couple of people who use screenreaders. The feedback I got was mostly favourable, but one guy said that the "Open parent document" button didn't seem to do anything.

I wasn't aware that there was an "Open parent document"  button, and I can't find anything resembling it. Is there such a thing and, if so, how do I access it and what is it for?

Hi Julie,

It could be that this 'guy' is not running on the latest version of Jaws, it should be 9 or 10

If he'susing an older version of JAWS with Internet, Explorer 8 or higher, he might encounter this problem, in which case he needs to update hisJAWS or roll back to an earlier browser version.

Just a thought.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Hi again, Julie

You mentioned wanting to use your course for iPad, and I wanted to point out that while you may not run into any issues when developing and deploying your course, our HTML5 output and output for the Articulate Mobile Player are not officially 508 compliant

Thanks, Peter - actually, this is all good for us at the moment. The folks who use assistive software do so with desktop computers, and I'm not required to make the iPad versions accessible. We are still using IE8 as our corporate standard browser, and since it doesn't support HTML5, the standard Flash output with 508 compliance works for us for desktop use.

If we ever update to a browser that supports and defaults to HTML5 I will be in trouble - I'll be hoping that your HTML5 output is 508 compliant by then!

Cheers,

Julie
