I haven't heard/seen that issue - but I'm curious to know what settings you included for opening the PDF? Did you allow the browser controls to display? Also, do you know what version of IE they're viewing the course in? Have you been able to replicate the behavior yourself?
I haven't heard of this behavior before, and I'm having a hard time reproducing it. CTRL+W is a good tool to keep in your toolbox for closing stubborn browser tabs/windows, but if you'd like to get to the root of the problem, I'd recommend asking your customer to record a screencast of the problem so that you (and we) can better understand it. Thanks!
I would expect either the Hyperlink option or the Web Object option to work just fine here. If your customer can share what they are seeing in more detail, it might give us some idea of what's happening. Thanks!

Good Afternoon, Sam.

Did I do this incorrectly? I added a button with a trigger to "Jump to URL/File". Works fine for me and I cannot reproduce.
Should I be doing the same thing by adding a Web Object to the button?
Sam
