I am trying to use the SL3 player menu to open PDF files listed under Quick Reference. The client wants the files to open in the player window. Is there a way to open a PDF file in the player window from the player menu? Thank you!
You can attach a JumpToSlide xyz trigger to the Player menu link. The slide contains a webobject or link to file that links to the pdf. Here is a quick example.
That might work except that I need to use the Quick Reference link provided by SL to use the drop-down list of PDFs. We have multiple PDFs the client wants to access. I might be able to use this as Plan B! I'm going to test it out. Thank you!
To anyone who knows how to open a PDF file from the Resources drop-down list in the player so that the PDF file is displayed in the player, please add in your two cents! I need to list several PDF files and would like them to open in the player, but the Edit Resource window only allows links to a URL or a file location. I need to add code or a trigger to call the file to open in the player, if that is possible.
There are ways to open links in the current window using a javascript trigger. Would that work for you? Are you worried that opening in the same window will navigate away from your course? Maybe I'm not clear on what you are trying to do.
I am trying to open a PDF file from the drop-down list from the Resources option in the actual player.
Under the Player Properties, you can click on Resources and specify files to open. The client doesn't want them to open in a separate browser window, but in the actual player to keep the user in the course.
When you click to Add Resource, the only options are a URL or file location. Those options both open the files in a separate browser window. I want them to open inside the player.
I can open a PDF file from the actual player menu if I add it as a standalone option and by calling a web object get it to open in the player, but when I try to add it to the drop-down list automatically created by the Resources option, the files only open in a separate browser window.
I see now. Unless someone else has another suggestion, your only other option might be to create your own custom menu in the player, where you can customize the behavior how you like.

Could you attach the sample file? I am not getting the web object piece to work correctly. Thanks!
Michael,
I have this method set as Plan B. Thank you for your help!

Does all of that make sense?

I may have to look into that!
Thanks so much for the suggestion!

Sure thing. I've had to do that in the past when I just wasn't getting the functionality I needed out of the builtin menu.
