Opening corrupt file

Feb 12, 2016

I have a (storyline 2) file that I have been working on and now says that it is corrupt and it won't open. Are there any known fixes?

Hi, Jeffrey -- Thanks so much for your question and I'm really sorry to hear about your troubles. With respects to file corruption, there may still be a working version of your project in your temp files. Here's how to check:

1) Open this folder in Windows Explorer: %appdata%\Articulate\Storyline

2) Scan the contents of this folder for a file that starts with the name of your project. If you find one, copy it to your desktop. If you find more than one, copy the latest version to your desktop.

3) Change the file extension of the copy on your desktop from *.tmp to *.story.

4) Double-click the file to open it in Storyline.

Thanks, but the file does not exist.

My hard drive crashed a few weeks ago and my backup apparently does not include everything.

Thanks for your help.

So sorry to hear, Jeffrey, but we appreciate the update. I did want to share this article on how to Create, Edit, and Publish Articulate Storyline Courses on Your Local Hard Drive as it may help prevent corruption in the future.

I also wanted to note, when you reply via email, the details in your signature are visible publicly in your forum post. Please feel free to navigate to your post and use the EDIT button beneath to remove those details if you wish. :)
