Optiminal Screen Recording Settings

Mar 29, 2016

Hi,

I'm doing a screen recording demo of a software. When I publish it to LMS and watch it. It is not very clear and its very hard to see the screen of the software.

I have tired playing around with the Player settings but cant seem to fix it.

What is the best way to get a very clear and large screen recording?

Thank you

Ellana

Hi,

Thank you for those topics. I read though each one and still cant find a specific answer to my question.

What is the best player settings in order to get the best resolution? I have included a picture of these settings.

Is it best to make the recording screen size as big as possible or not for resolution?

Thank you

Ellana

Hi, Ellana -- Thanks for your reply! Here is some additional information for your review, Increasing quality of screen recording, and the following are recommendations from our Director of Technical Support, Justin Grenier:

"For high-content screen recordings, my recommendation is to (a) determine, based on your audience, the average/target screen resolution of your learners (http://tcrn.ch/11oYLIW), (b) set your Story Size to something slightly less than that (http://bit.ly/11oYUMn) to allow for browser toolbars, status bars, and so on, (c) set the Player Size to "Lock player at optimal size" (http://bit.ly/11oZ1HK) to prevent scaling, and (d) perform Screen recording on a machine whose screen resolution is set to something slightly less than the Story Size selected above, to allow for the Storyline Player.

For example, if I needed to show screens containing lots of content at high resolution, and I knew that my learners would be using a Screen Resolution of 1920x1080, I might do the following:

1. Set my Story Size to 1600 x 900.
2. Disable scaling.
3. Set my Screen Resolution to 1366 x 768 before recording.

It's possible that the target audience is using a screen resolution so low that it is not practical to perform screen recording at a significantly lower resolution, or is unknown. However, with very busy screencasts, the goals should be to (a) avoid performing screen recording at a resolution that is significantly higher than that of your learners or your story size and (b) avoid scaling small/shrunken screencasts to higher resolution."
