Option for choosing navigation position?

Jan 19, 2018

I'm working in Storyline 3.

I would like to be able to choose what happens with the navigation when a course is opened on a mobile device. It would be ideal if I could make it so navigation stayed on the bottom, so the course is consistent with the desktop experience.

I don't believe this is possible now, but is there a timeline for this happening in the future?

Any info would be a big help - thanks!

Hi Casey,

The navigation options in the responsive player will move from the bottom to the right side depending on if you're in portrait or landscape view on your device. There isn't a setting to change that today, but our team is always curious to hear feedback and what would help you course design!  I think this would be worth explaining a bit more to our product team about here!

Thank you for the response Ashley.

In another post that was running throughout last year on this subject I thought it was indicated that in Q1 there would be a Storyline update that would allow us to choose which navigation (current computer of mobile version) we wanted to appear.

Before we got SL3 someone posted a hack for SL2 that forced the bottom navigation and we were excited to have this option on our mobile devices…but that doesn’t work with SL3.

We want to be able to force the standard bottom navigation for all devices (computer, tablet, phone).

It would be great to know if there is another hack for this and/or if it is on the todo list.

Thanks!

Hi Paul,

It sounds like you're looking to keep the standard classic player while on a mobile device?

Our new modern player (which is still finishing up the beta testing) will allow you to use what you've seen in the existing responsive player on mobile while also viewing on the desktop.

If you want to continue with the classic player as you see today on desktop, you certainly can! We'll still default to the responsive/modern player on mobile devices though.

Hope that helps clarify, and we'll let you know as soon as this feature is ready for Storyline 360!

Actually I don't like the current mobile navigation because it forces to the right (in landscape) and the learner can't scrub.  The desired state is to be able to have the same functionality in both computer and mobile and the option to choose the placement and color in Storyline for computer, tablet, and phone.  We would then select full functionality and have it on the bottom for both computer and tablet in landscape or portrait.  We have hundreds of legacy courses that we would then comfortably convert to mobile.  So looking forward to the new modern and navigation in SL3 and hope it gives us these options.  Feel free to pass along to dev team and/or confirm how this might work.  thanks!
