Overlapping Closed Captions Bug

Feb 21, 2020

Hi Storyline world!

Has anybody else experienced this SL 360 bug with closed captions 'sticking' from the previous slide and stacking on top of the next slide? (image attached)

This only happens when I have the seekbar on and open and the Play/Pause button active. If you click pause half way through a slide with the captions on, and then click on the menu to go to another page, the caption from the last page stacks on top of the captions from the current page. If you do the same thing multiple times, you get a whole lotta stacked CC's.

Interestingly, I can only replicate this with Foreign language closed captions.

Dan/Leslie, I tried replicating your issue on one of our Spanish courses (using the latest version) and I could not get the captions to stack as your did. Weird issue. Good you rolled back. The last 2 updates were buggy and not everything was fixed yet. I had my own weird issue with Storyline not opening after my PC crashed and had to reinstall. Hence the latest version... now rolling back again myself today.

BTW Leslie, in IE you still can't access the Seekbar buttons in the latest release. I assume Dan was testing in Chrome.

Hi Dan,

Thanks for the additional information.

I appreciate you sharing because now I'm thinking you may be running into a different issue.

With your permission, I'd like you to share your project file with our support engineers to investigate what's happening. You can share it privately by uploading it here. It will be deleted when troubleshooting is complete.

Hi there, Madeleine!

Sorry to hear you're facing this roadblock. There are two different bugs connected to this discussion, so I want to make sure we got your scenario covered!

  1. We have an open issue where closed captions of videos on slide layers stack when pausing the video before jumping to a different slide or layer that also has a video with closed caption. Disabling the seekbar or temporarily installing Update 35 are the only workarounds we know of at this point.
  2. The other issue is where closed captions across multiple audio in one slide overlap when replaying the slide by clicking the menu item. As we continue to investigate, we found that combining the audio files into one file helps avoid this bug.

Let us know if those descriptions don't hit the mark. If you can share the file with us, we're happy to have a closer look! You can use this secure upload link.

Hi Everyone,

Great news! We just released another update for Articulate 360 and included a few important fixes for Storyline 360 that you'll see in the release notes.
The issue you were running into where Closed Captions from multiple layers could display simultaneously and audio/video content that was duplicated on multiple slides with different captions resulted in the wrong captions being shown has been fixed.

Just to clarify, this was mentioned by Katie in her post above as issue number 1. Issue Number 2 is still outstanding and we'll be sure to pop in here when there's any progress to share.

Just launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer and click the Update button for Storyline 360. Details here.

Hello All!

I'm excited to pop back into this discussion with a follow-up to Ren's last post!

We've fixed issue #2 Katie mentioned previously —

HTML5: Closed captions for multiple audio in one slide overlap when replaying the slide by clicking the menu item.

Be sure to install the latest Storyline 360 update (Build 3.49.24347.0) to take advantage of all the recent features and fixes.

If the problem happens again, please let us know, or you can always work directly with our support engineers here.
